I play double bass, is learning Cello hard?
Well, I have been playing double bass for more than 10 years, but since I moved I couldnt take my bass with me. A cello however would be possible. So I am considering now to try learning Cello as a second/third instrument. Say you are a fairly advanced on double bass, does that make things easier for learning Cello? I saw one on sale here for a cheap price, however wouldnt have a teacher around. So I thought maybe just buy it and give it a shot?

Their are plenty of tutorials online that can teach you such things. As well its always best to learn multiple instrument so that you can be a Prince type of musician. Give it a shot. You seen like a knowledgeable person so learning would be quicker than usual.

Before I quiet orchestra, I used to play violin then switched to double bass. After I got bored with that, I decided that I wanted to play the cell but my orchestra teacher said that she needed me on bass because I was first chair in my class and most of the time I helped the other students. So I decided that I would teach myself how to play the cello. I would come in early in the morning to my orchestra class (since I didn't have a cello) and I would get a cello book and practice the songs in there. I'm a fast learner so on the second day, I was able to play it really well and began to help a girl in my class who had been playing the cello since 6th grade (I was in 8th during that time.) After me helping her with hwer music for about three weeks, she moved from last chair cello to first chair. So the answer to your question would be no, its not hard because cello and bass already read the same clef sign so it's not like you have to learn to read another clef. And I think that you should buy the cello and learn. I love learning new instruments that's why I can play the violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar, bass guitar, and I'm learning the piano now. :D But I wouldn't call myself a professional because I'm just 14. Good luck and I hope things work out for you.

I'm a cellist who tried learning double bass. Cello is easier. See the self-teaching book on cello playing, called Cello Playing for Music Lovers, available on Amazon.

I am sure you could pick up the basics. Once you get past that you really need some instruction, either class or lessons. I would rather see you concentrate on one instrument than to spread your time etc. over 4 or more.
