Can I get help answering all of these questions regarding preparing for college?

So, senior year starts in about a month for me and, while I desperately tried, I could get any job due to the fact that I don't have transportation. I also think it was because I didn't have job experience or anything like that. I was planning to not go to college right after High School and take a few years to pursue another career that didn't require college at all but i realized this summer that i need to get a degree and have a back up plan for the career I have due to the fact that the career I want is definitely not guaranteed success, no matter how hard you work at it.

They asked on my ACT this year what college I should put down and, since I wasn't planning on going just yet, i didn't put anything. Now, i am worried that I wont be able to use that ACT score and I will have to take it again or something. My grades haven't been the best my Freshman, Sophmore, and Junior Year as well. Nothing too bad but I'd say i'm a tiny bit above average. Do they look at your GPA for your entire time in high school or will they pay more attention to your senior year?

Right now, my plan is to go to a two year college to bring my grades up and improve my chances of getting into a better college. Is this smart or should I just go straight to preparing to go to a four year college?

Also, i'm concerned about the price. Should I work for a year and try and save up as much as I can or should I just straight up take out a loan from the bank? I'm so afraid of how the future will be as far as money goes and I've been seeing these horror stories of how people screwed themselves horribly after taking a loan for college. Is this just the news trying to scare me into reading their article?

Right now I'm planning on going to college for video editing, producing, or graphic design. Which one of those careers would be the best to go to college for?

I know I screwed up bad by not preparing for college Junior year but I want to work hard this year to make up for that time. It's not that I was being lazy or anything. It was more fear that I was going to do something wrong and not wanting to prepare too early. I'm ready to start planning right now and I'll work as hard as I can to make sure I'm fully prepared. If you think I screwed up bad, go ahead and tell me. This way, at least I'll be prepared to work harder

Thank you to all who answer and sorry for the many grammatical errors you see. I needed to write this in a hurry

You can go on the ACT website and they should still have your score. You will have to pay money to send it to a college.

They look at your cumulative gpa, that is the average gpa of 9th-11th grade. Honestly, senior year grades don't matter once as long as they aren't terrible.

I think you should attend community college first since it seems like you need help financially. Talk to the advisers there. They should be able to help you or at least guide you to someone who knows about editing, producing, graphic design, etc. I would say go to an art school specifically for that stuff, but what happens if you switch your career plans? Lots of money wasted! It's better to sort things out the first two years and then transfer.

Also, during that time, you could get a part-time job! Try applying now because students will be leaving when summer is over, so there may be openings. Try grocery stores, retail, coffee shops, restaurants, etc. Talk to the manager and express your desires for the job, don't just simply write out an application!

I hope I helped to answer at least a few of your questions. Good luck with everything!! :)

Woah. Big change in plans there.

Okay, when are you taking the ACT? Don't put anything and e-mail the colleges with a note that you will be taking the test on -insert date- and will send the scores as they become available.

You're forgiven for fr/soph year, but junior year will be looked at seriously, but so will your grades for your first semester of your senior year. College apps are usually due anywhere from December to February, so make sure your semester grades are sent out from whatever office your school works that from, once the deadline comes around.

You should probably just go to the four-year because it will probably end up costing you much more if credits do not transfer as you might expect, especially in art/production programs.

People get into trouble because they don't pay back their loans and choose to go to expensive schools rather than state schools where they can pay in-state tuition and get financial aid as well. Don't be fooled by private schools, they are no better or worse. Since you're going into artsy fields, look for scholarships at zinch.com that you can submit work to and hopefully get something out of it. Working for a year will do very little for you as for college costs- if you go local, commute from home, it saves a lot.

Go for whatever you are best at. The demand in those fields depends on where you want to be and the type of work you want to do, though I know there are always companies looking for graphic designers.

Incorporate your mistakes and your realization that you want to take a different/better path in your essay, or in an interview, so that the colleges will understand. You did give yourself a lot of setbacks, but we're all people, have an open communication with admissions offices so that they understand your position. Apply to a two year that you know you can get into as a backup-- everyone should have a backup, but aim for what you want realistically.

Work harder no matter how people answer that last one!

EDIT: I agree with the previous poster. Go for a part time job, or even try to apply on campus!

Ok, first dont worry about the work experience. You dint even finish HS yet! During your senior year ask around local stores if they need any extra hands, if not volunteer through your HS or local church or an organization. This will give you something to put on your resume if you are that worried about it.

Second: It is becoming extremly more common to take a yaer off before going to college, some IVY schools are even preferring you do this. Although I personally dont advise it, it is your life, live it the way you want to. If your not ready than take a year to yourself to earn money, rest, or explore the world. Your ACT will count, check with your guidance counselor and collegeboard (you can keep track of your SAT/ACT scores there). Colleges tend to focus more on your GPA freshman-junior year since when you are or should be applying is early your senior year. If it is a very competitive or prestigious school chances are they will check your senior year scores to make sure you didnt slack off.

As for your current plan regarding the 2 year, go for it. I live 10 min. away from a community college (Nassau) and plenty of kids from my HS and surrounding do what you are planning to do. Just make sure you do good in those 2 years!

As for the price, it will be pretty steep regardless of in state or out of state. As I am no financial expert on the situation you are in I would advise you to talk to your parents, guidance counselor or someone in your school. The horror stories you hear are for the most part false or justified. Be smart about it, dont go to a 40k / yr school if you cant afford it.

Now for your major I have no clue, because once again its up to you. Use google, various websites such as collegeprowler.com , collegeboard.com, and princeton review books to find out what schools are known for each major and than which school is affordable and close enough. I would begin to start looking intensely soon since some schools have early application deadlines. Spend 20 min. a day just finding info.

you didnt screw up bad trust me, do you think your the only one who is unsure about college that got mediocre / average grades in HS? Join the club.

Good luck and I hope I was atleast somewhat helpfull.
