Does anyone see the sense in Manchester United signing Lucas Moura?

I don't understand, he seems to be a winger or an attacking midfielder, if United where to sign him to play on the wing this would be pointless as we have many great wingers (Valencia, Young, Nani) so he would be a waste or we would waste another player in an already contested role!

Secondly if he was purchased to play as an attacking midfielder what was the point in signing Kagawa as they are very similar players?!? I can see Kagawa paying in a kind of Centre Forward role behind Rooney, but we still need a Central Midfield Play maker which Lucas is NOT! hes someone who can get past players and score which we don't need. As far as is see it i think there is no point unless Fergie has a plan and i wont doubt him. Finally there something about United and South Americans they never seem to have lived up to their potential (Veron, Kleberson) they also may need some time like Anderson, Rafael and Fabio! We need an immediate fix an i don't think Lucas is the correct option!

Update:

@Scroo This, im thinking we need someone to replace Scholes rather than Anderson, i believe in Anderson but he just cant seem to keep form..

Interesting argument. The great thing about Lucas is that he is a incredibly versatile player and can play in all kinds of positions (Wide, Central, Deep, Behind or as the main Striker). This is the major selling point of the lad who can easily fill these roles if anyone is injured or rested. Although i understand that with the price tag he is going to be needing a starting birth. United might play him on the right side over Nani and Valencia. Or the other option is for him playing behind Rooney with kagawa in the central Midfield in a 4-4-1-1 formation which i think looks the most likely.

I think it's a terrible bit of business... £30m for an unproven 19yo Brazilian kid who is inconsistent in his current (and far weaker) league.

Also reports saying we are going to pay him £130k a week!?!

Everything about this transfer is stupid. The amount of money involved, the risk involved, and the fact (as you said) we don't actually need the guy!!

He won't play CM, because that is not a position his game is suited to, and he wont play CAM because we have just bought Kagawa for that exact role! Will he play on a wing? He won't knock Valencia out of the team, and although Nani has his critics (I am one of them), he is an experienced PL winger capable of being a great, so I can't really see the logic behind replaceing him with someone who isn't world-class...

So what? We are paying £30m (and £7m a year in wages) for a lad to sit on the bench for 75% of our games? F**K that.

That money could be used to solve our midfield problems, of which there are plenty.

+ Scholes is in his last season. He cannot play 90mins twice a week. He needs a replacement this season.

+ Scholes and Carrick, whilst offering great passing capabilities, fail to "boss" a midfield. Neither is a physical presence to disrupt opposition attacks, and, as above (for Scholes) both are in the twilight of their careers!

+ Neither Scholes or Carrick offers a goal threat. When there are midfielders like Ramires / Lampard / Alonso / Iniesta etc are offering 10+ goals a season, a return of 6 goals from the pair of them isn't good enough.

£30m could buy us Moutinho (£25m), a player which offers all of the above, and would actually be a guaranteed starter!!

£30m could also buy Nuri Sahin (£15m), a player which is, in my opinion, as close as there is to Scholes (in his prime) in world football right now, but with the added bonus of him being able to perform a legal tackle.

This whole Lucas Moura transfer saga just makes my blood boil. As above, we do NOT need him, and the money (of which there isn't much spare at Old Trafford these days!) could be better spent on players we really need.

My only doubt is that Brazilian players traditionally don't do that well in England. He could be the exception, who knows?

Ferguson is a great manager, but he's also made bad signings like every other manager. It's always a lottery in how well a foreign player will do in another country.

Maybe drop him to a CM role to replace Anderson?
