Amp head/cabinet combination?

I'm looking at possibly getting a new guitar amp head/cabinet, but I'm having a hard time finding heads and cabinets that match power levels, especially if I have to buy used. I was thinking of going with a 200 watt head and 400 watt cab, because I figure a lower powered head will keep from blowing the speakers. But I'm wondering if it will leave me with a muddy sound, or if the sound levels will be lower than a 200 watt combo amp because the speaker cab is too big for the head.

Go to a reputable music store and have them show you the possibilities, they are pretty much endless. You must find a knowledgable sales person who can demonstrate the possible combinations and configurations. Before you go, do some research on wattage, ohms, etc. How else will you know if the guy helping you knows his stuff. Then test, test, test. Be willing to go to a lot of different stores and play a lot of different rigs. Other than a quality instrument, the amp/cab combination is the key to a kick A$$ sound. Good luck

First off, unless you are a bass player, 200 watts is ridiculous. Second, the power requirements do not need to match, you want the cab to be of a higher rating if possible, but never lower.
