To ladies who are black and have unprocessed hair, here's a situation I face:?
I know lots of women love wigs - others don't but find them no big deal. Personally, I hate wearing one just as much as I hate processing my hair. At this point, it seems I may need one to get a job.
Is it ok to wear a wig to the interview but not to the job? Have you done this and how did it work out? I'm willing to drag myself to a wig shop, kicking and screaming - but I'm looking not to wear those things daily.
I'm trying to gauge the likelyhood that I'll find myself in front of HR.
Thank you so much for any experience you may share.
"Who cares?"? Me, of course - I'm trying to get a job.
No interviewer has ever said to me - 'hate the hair, no job for you.' But when it comes to reactions to appearance, "the rules" are TIMELESS - the decade on the calendar doesn't matter.
In this economy, it's an employer's market. They get to be as picky as they want. I'm just trying to hedge my bets. Wig needed at interview: seems obvious since I want to avoid processing. But do I have to keep wearing it after I acquire a position? I can't imagine I'm the first to go this route, and wonder if it's viable or is it a bad idea.
Thanks again for any experiences to share.

I am not black, and not a woman, and I am not even sure what processed hair is, but this is 2012 and not 1952, and I think black people in the United States can look themselves these day and not have to hide anything behind a wig.
Saying that, if you do wear a wig to an interview, there is probably nothing wrong with it as long as it looks natural and does not draw attention. I do not think anyone will mind much.
Some people must wear wigs since their hair has fallen out (like my sister did after chemo which worked for her), and some religious groups such as married Orthodox Jewish females have to wear wigs for cultural reasons. I really would just wear with what you are most comfortable with.

I asked myself the same question. I just started wearing wigs 2 weeks ago. My hair is a fine texture and very short. I have an interview tomorrow with the Marriott Hotel. I am wearing my mid length loose curl wig. I put on my clothing today to see how I look. Light grey slacks, white collared blouse and a black lined suit jacket. Along with my wig, I looked amazing. I looked like I would fit right in working at the hotel, flight attendant or even at the customer counter at the airport. I did ask my 2 grown sons, my daughter-n-law and my sister. All said yes except for my sister. And she has been wearing wigs daily for years. So I say yes, girl wear that wig and be proud.

I often go the two techniques. I loosen up my hair frequently as a results of flexibility i will get with my hair that way. i'm waiting to sort it in plethora of varieties while it is comfortable. yet each so often i visit pass without a relaxer and permit my hair to strengthen thick. i visit wash my hair, cornrow it on a similar time as nonetheless moist, then enable it to dry on a similar time as i'm asleep. day after in the present day, i'm going to take the braids out and that i will have a huge, curly afro! i admire organic varieties to boot. there's no longer something incorrect with organic hair; I merely like the flexibility of comfortable hair.

Being a white guy, I don't have that problem, but I fully agree that going natural is the best, if others don't like it, who cares ?
Why try to hide it to please others ?

Be yourself !
An employer is looking at your qualifications.
Not the way you look.
