Probably a stupid question. I've had my ear pierced for about six years; last night, I lost my only earring. Should I go buy a new one asap, or can I afford to wait a week or so?

You'll be able to wait a week without your ear piercing closing up. If you've had it in for six years, it won't be gone in seven days.

You can wait. I've had 10 ear piercings for years and sometimes I go months without any earrings.
