Might I have tourettes?

Ok so I am 17 and I began to notice that a few months ago I have been starting to get a twitch that happens once for a split second around once or twice a day around my neck. It doesnt hurt or anything but it is involuntary. It started about two or three months ago and i think it is the same as it used to be as of the twitches magnitude. I also twitch the same amount when my friend unexpectedly pokes my neck because he sits behind me. The twitch is like I lift my shoulders up a little and that's it. Do I have a mild case of tourettes? Please be serious. Its not like im screaming profanity like on tv when the serious cases of tourettes is shown.

Don't worry, that's not tourette's. Tourette syndrome is a tic disorder. What you have is not a tic. A tic is a movement or noise your body makes, but it doesn't just "happen" like you described. There is a premonitory sensation before the tic, so there's like a build-up of energy in a certain body part. This feeling will increase until you do the tic.

Examples of tics are: blinking a lot, sniffling, facial twitches, neck jerking, etc.

People with tourette's would tic thousands of times a day - even if they have a mild case. It certainly wouldn't happen just once or twice!

The twitch you get when someone pokes your neck is not a tic - it's just a normal reaction! So don't worry.

If you're still concerned, you could see a doctor about it, but it's definitely not tourette syndrome or a tic disorder.
