Calvin Coolidge gave a speech on the 150th anniversary of the nation (1926 for you Liberal Arts majors), where he brilliantly shredded the entire concept of Progressivism.  Showing that it was nothing of the sort.  There is nothing new about it.  That is because personal freedom will always be anathema to the ruling class. Suppressing the rights of many for the benefit of a few, is the oldest trick in the book.  The secret is to make them think it is for their own good.
What is referred to today as Progressives, is just a modern day manifestation of medieval Monarchism.  The only difference being that instead of having the right to rule bestowed upon them by God, Progressives believe it is due them based on their intellectual and moral superiority.   In either case, the presumption of Elitism is exactly the same.

Almost all who demand a small government also oppose infrastructure spending.
Infrastructure must be planned on a nation-wide scale.
A small government cannot build the world’s greatest infrastructure.
Without the world’s greatest infrastructure, we will not have the world’s greatest industrial base.
Without the world’s greatest industrial base, we will not have the world’s greatest defense.
Without the world’s greatest defense, our very existence as a nation will be in jeopardy.
A small government would be the road to serfdom.
A small government would betray the heroes who died for our freedom.  
Those who demand a small government are traitors deserving scorn, if not execution.

There is a big difference in the National Socialism in 1920's Germany and what we have in America right now. The National Socialist party (Nazi Party) was actually far-right wing in their ideology. However, Germany was more or less a homogeneous mixture, and freeloading was not allowed. This directly contrasts with American liberals who want to punish the rich for simply existing and redistribute the wealth to freeloaders via entitlement programs. Germany's socialism worked because there were no entitlements in the way we regard them here in America.

no you are the one that came up the quote from the past. If you can see it is 2012 & people not having jobs doesn't bring in tax money, it costs us all money & the answer is to employ people. As soon as Bush got in office people started losing jobs but it was ignored back then. This is why the dems took over congress though.
