Pedigree is no importance. The pup should be healthy and that's it :-)

Get in touch with the Breed Club and ask for the names of known reputable breeders. You'll still have to do your homework (leg work) as it's vital you don't buy from a website, but go see the litter, and mum, meet the breeders and see the conditions the litter is being reared in. You could also look on the Kennel Club's list of puppies, but again, being on this list is NOT a guarantee that you will be dealing with a reputable breeder, just one who has registered the litter (well, it's a start much as a breeder can ask more for a registered puppy) You could also look on the Champdogs website - this is the ONLY all-breed website I can recommend as at least they do have a good percentage of reputable breeders on there, going by my own breed!
I would just say that 'pedigree', or breeding from good, sound recognised bloodlines, is going to be relevant when it comes to getting a 'healthy' puppy. As is, generally, price. In other words, it's going to be worth saving up what's needed to buy a well-bred puppy. If you buy cheap, you may well end up paying more with the vet.
