Skyrim & nVidia Driver Problem?

Wondering if you can help?

I have a new graphics card, a nVidia GTS250. To start with, i installed the latest drivers but the game was really laggy. I uninstalled the driver and tried an older one, it was worse, i uninstalled again and installed a slightly newer one. To my suprise, it worked!

The problem is that when i uninstall the driver and reinstall driver 285.79 without restarting, the game runs perfectly, but when i restart or turn comp off and back on, the game runs crappy again.

To fix, i have to uninstall the driver, then reinstall it without restarting. I can then play the game without lag. When i restart the game goes really laggy and crappy again.

I dont get it!

Can anyone explain this weird behaviour?

My system isnt old. Its a quad core 3ghz cpu with 6gb ddr3.

I disagree with Kevins comment.

A defective card wouldnt cause the computer to work then after restart go funny!

Skyrim isnt a DX10 or DX11 game, its DX9.

The driver not recognising the new driver??? The new driver is the driver?

Explain how it could be a problem with hard drive!?!?! The hdd has nothing to do with that!

    you bought a lemon card. a gts 250 was a good card but it is a old model now and is outdated.

    You probably spent arround eighty to hundred bucks on that card and hoped that it would run it fine.

    Well the problem is the gts 250 doesn't support dx 11 or dx 10 for that matter. The reason for your uneven lagginess might also come from the driver not recconnizing the new driver. The card is old so for a hundred bucks i would have bought a gtx 550 instead(it might be a while to find one this cheap but i got mine for $110 and it runs skyrim on ultra).

    Finally, its a high performance card, bought it might be defective or its the direct x like i mentioned.

    There might also be a problem with your hard drive instead maybe...

    okay, if it isn't a defective card check everything. i remember looking arround my computer for problems and found out that a stick of ram was sticking out. So if its not the hdd or the card. I put my skyrim on dx 10. Maybe its because my brother got me a collectors edition (yes i was that lucky). Well try reinstalling the whole computer again or whack it gently with a hammer(gently(I'm out of possible solutions)).

    Okay I looked more into it, try uninstalling skyrim than instal skyrim. Is your skyrim from a disk? And skyrim does have dx 11.

    Or it could be nothing, the company that makes the drivers messed up, and a patch is coming?
