Republicans and Democrats have nearly identical platforms. Is that democratic?
Their differences are superficial. For example, on foreign policy issues, they are pretty much identical. They are both in favour of wars, imperialism, third world exploitation etc. They differ somewhat on the question of national economy, although they are both in favour of the same economic system (capitalism). The difference being that conservatives are in favour of lower taxes and less regulation of the economy along with less funding for social programs (social security, healthcare etc), while liberals prefer some government regulation and more funding for social programs. They only exist on the political scene to give the population an ILLUSION that they have a choice, when in reality their programs are relatively identical (at least on major issues). For example, Bush is a conservative and Clinton is a liberal. Yet, Bush ran up the deficit while Clinton balanced the budget.
Do you feel your views are represented by these two parties? If you only have two choices, and they are nearly the same, ISN'T THAT TECHNICALLY A DICTATORSHIP?

it's the most sophisticated dictatorship in history, because it remains mostly invisible, and joins and swallows up any opposition
when it is 'thrown out', it's always what goes right back in
no matter 'who' you elect. you're always voting for it
you'll never get a candidate on the ballot that it doesnt own

It corrupts the two party system. A third party only guarantees that the Democrats win. The electorate deserves two parties with clear differences. The Republicans are only sometimes conservative. Bush was a conservative, but his record was not the least bit conservative. Also, a Republican Congress balanced the budget, not Clinton.

I don't think you get to actually vote for a Dictator. Also, in a Dictatorship, we would not have the Branches of Government for Checks and Balances purposes as we do now.
