"(UN)arranged Marriage" ?

I'm reading a book called"(un)arranged marriage" by bali Rai! It's about an British Asian, his parents are totally traditional and call themselves sikh, but even though the sikhism thinks that everybody is equal and it doesn'T amtter which caste you belong to they talk a lot about them being JAT and about some from - i guess lower castes - being chamarr! i thought theres only one case system? the family in the book i from the punjab(dunno if it matters) all in all my question is: could anybody tell me how the caste system whcih includes JAT's and CHAMARRS?

Update:

so do it please!

Sikhism disregards the caste system and believes in equality and unity. It was the main basis that Sikhism was formed. Unfortunately, these so called "jatts" have been increasingly becoming arrogant and ignoring their religious values, but for some reason they still call them Sikh. Caste system doesn't exist in Sikhism. Those that pride themselves in being jatt, chamar, etc. are not Sikh.

Looking at today's world, does caste really matter? There are millions of chamars above jatts. Jatts were just farmers and chamars were known as servants, but they still had quite a bit of land.

All in all, it's wrong. Those that call themselves Sikh but then pride themselves in being jatt live a life of contradictory.

I have also read the book, it is really interesting, the author was pointing out that people like his dad drag religions into their stupid cultures, this was a real eye opener for me. there are plenty of castes. I really don't know any of them.
