in the move to ipads, why can't the teachers of larger school systems?
work together to write their own school systems text books and never buy textbooks again? they are college graduates for goodness sakes and they are certified to teach at their particular grade level.
it would only take a few months for each teacher to write their chapter, they would then send their papers to their department heads and then to the board for final approval. then they could load it into the students ipads.
tests could be given electronically and graded automatically. if a student gives a wrong answer the computer would write the page number the correct answer could be found on. this would free up the teacher to give them more time to teach and less time on grunt work.
i have been told that text books for each class can be anywhere from 50 to 75 dollars each it seems this system would save money in the long run.

Education is very simple, isn't it? You read a sentence, you spit it back on the test, you get an A. You never learn to think for yourself, you never learn to read and evaluate different opinions, you never have to take responsibility for your own learning.
Writing textbooks does not just require knowledge of the subject matter. It requires knowledge of how students learn, how to present the information, how to structure activities to promote higher level thinking, etc. Most high school teachers do not have all that expertise.
