Is it right for a church to charge 300 dollars for a 2 hour funeral?
My cousin passed away and we are having his funeral at his aunts church, they are charging us 300 dollars! This has been a family church for many years but now only my aunt goes! She is a faithul tithe payer and she is a great help to the ministry! Also the repast will not be at this church! The pastor who is officiating the funeral said there is nothing he could do because it was the deacons decision, what do you think of this? Please be honest!

Well, that's organized religion for you.
When my father died, the minister didn't charge a dime.

With the current economy, it is very likely the church is in desperate need of funds.
$300 for an event, be it a funeral, a wedding, or a baptism seems fairly reasonable - particularly since this amount seems to include the building AND the pastor.

Sounds about right. Your cousin was not a member of the church. most churches charge if the deceased wasn't a member. Your aunt''s involvement in this church is irrelevant.

$300 sounds reasonable, in fact it sounds cheaper than having the funeral anywhere else.

I see no problem if the deceased was not a regular attendee. I'm sorry about your cousin. May God give you rest and peace.
