Are RIS pistol grips illegal under California assault weapon law?
I understand that, under PC 12276.1, it is illegal to possess a semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and a forward pistol grip.
But what happens when I have a rifle with a RIS rail underneath, and attach a forward pistol grip to the rail? Is that illegal too? Supposedly, I use the gun with the forward pistol grip attached (and that's illegal) but store my rifle with the grip off - and that's legal, right?

12276.1 (a) Notwithstanding Section 12276, "assault weapon" shall also mean any of the following:
A semiautomatic, center fire rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following: . . .
12276.1(a)1F of the California Penal Code specifically list a "A forward pistol grip" as a banded assault weapon.
By attaching the forward pistol grip to your rifle you have made it an illegal assault weapon.

Academy and frequently the different companies have a coverage that demands that a character be 21 until now than they are going to sell a firearm with a pistol grip to them.
