Let's say I dial 911 in a big US city, like New York, Los Angeles, or Chicago. What's the average time between my call and the police arriving at the scene of the crime? Let's assume that it's urgent, like a violent crime in progress.

Most places say 5 to 10 minutes but my guess is much longer in some cases especially if you live where there is a nursing home where they are constantly using resources or a high crime area!
Of course they joke 31 days for Casey Anthony case- not very funny!

My agency has an average response of 20 minutes to an emergency. Over the past 10 years our officer to citizen ratio was cut in half for budget reasons. We have a very large area to cover and insane traffic problems.
