Do you think any of the Tea Party members have ACTUALLY read the Bible?

Jesus is pretty darn clear on this:

Matthew 5 (The Sermon on the Mount)

33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths,

34 but I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne

35 nor by the earth; for it is his footstool neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great

36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

Now... whether you are religious or not... the meaning is clear. Pledges and Oaths ARE EVIL in the mind Jesus Christ.

So.... why has effectively EVERY Republican signed the Grover Norquist pledge?

Why did Bachman (who CLAIMS to be a Christian every chance she gets) sign that "Marriage Pledge."

Jesus said flat out.... these things are "evil." So... why the hypocrisy from the "Christian Conservatives?"

    Well first of all the Tea Party is not an exclusively Christian organization. Neither is the Republican Party, through they often talk that way to appeal to Christians who are not politically aware.

    Secondly, a large percentage of what Christians 'know' about the Bible is not from the Bible itself, it's from sermons and lectures and commentaries and exegetics they've read -about- the Bible. You couldn't be a Republican these days unless you were (1) entirely ignorant of the GOP's actual agenda or (2) able to twist Biblical teachings to conform to a particularly UNchristian political philosophy based on greed and intolerance.

    Tea Partiers and most other Christian fascist actually know very little about the Bible. It can be fun to quote them passages and watch their reaction when they do not have a strong answer for what it really means. Like Luke 3rd chapter, affirming Jesus came from Jewish bloodlines.

    yes I read the Bible. why do all you left wing ideologues insist on taking a passage from the Bible out of contest in a weak attempt to buttress and vacuous point? I would also like to point out for you (if you have the brain power to understand) that particular admonition related to taking an oath IN THE NAME OF GOD! Not just to taking oaths! read it again!

    I don't think it's a matter of reading. I think it's a matter of understanding! They clearly don't understand the bible. I am fairly certain the only group of people that truly do, are atheists. Either way, anyone who uses religion to sell themselves politically should not be allowed to run! A little something our founding fathers liked to call 'Separation of church and state!" Can I get an "AMEN" ???

    I honestly think most Christians haven't read the bible.

    Being a Christian is more than just going to church and pro-claiming yourself a Christian and accepting Jesus as one and only savior.

    Being a Christian is a life-style, and most Christians don't abide to the lifestyle so IMO most people aren't really Christians.
