Not disclosing health information on job application form?
Are there any legal ramifications for not disclosing information on a job application form regarding my health? I do not want my employer to know about an illness in my past (which will have no impact on my ability to do a job now). I know the information will be confidential, but I would rather not be defined by something in the past. Could I be refused the job / fired if my boss found out?

UK Law:-
Genrally speaking the employer should not be asking detailed information on your previous health and disability ( only for the purpose of establishing if reasonale adjustments have to be made ) on the application form.
You will find that in most applications, the health questionaires have been abandoned at the early stages of the application process.
If a job is offered you are obliged to provide full decalaration :
See the link , extract below:
"Questions you can be asked when applying for jobs
When people are recruiting staff, there are limits on the health or disability-related enquiries they can make during the recruitment process. These limits apply up to the point where you are offered a job or placed in a pool of people to be offered a job.
Before you are offered a job or placed in a pool of successful people, you can only be asked about your health or disability:
to help the person recruiting to find out whether you can take part in an assessment
to help them decide whether they need to make reasonable adjustments for you to a selection process, like an interview or test
to help them decide whether you can carry out a task that is an essential part of the work
to help them to monitor diversity among people applying for their jobs
if they want to know you are disabled because they want to increase the number of disabled people they employ
if they want to know you are disabled because it is a requirement of the job that you have a disability
for the purposes of national security checks
You may be asked whether you have a health condition or disability on an application form or in an interview. You then need to think about whether the question is one that is allowed to be asked at that stage of recruitment.
What to do if the question is not allowed
If you are asked a question that you think is not allowed under the Equality Act 2010, you can tell the employer or the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC). The EHRC can then carry out an investigation or take other appropriate action"
I dont know the nature of your illness but if you can do the job with or without reasonable adjustment, be confident in your application and dont be afraid -legally you are protected!
Very best of luck to you and hope you get the job.
Ps in the link it tells you to contact the Jobcentre - DONT they have no idea and it will be a wasted journey.

If you refuse to fill in the health part of the form, you will not get the job and you won't even be considered for interview.
If you are so secretive, you are rather wasting your time making job applications.
If you were an employer, would you really employ someone and you knew absolutely nothing about their health

None of those instances would be a problem unless you are still having problems with the mental aspects of the sexual assault. I do not believe "therapy" is an issue that comes up unless it is considered tramatic and would possibly cause flashbacks to the point of you freezing and unable to perform your duties OR assaulting other personnel. Recruiters do not like you to put down anything because it may disqualify you. There is a time where you can stand up and tell someone after you left "the moment of truth" and disclose anything you like. I did, it was for marijuana use three days prior to coming in and I had already disclosed I used marijuana prior to coming in and they just said i did it again and let me on my way.

yes you could be fired. your employer has a right to know whether you are able to do the job, it is not up to you to decide whether it will affect performance or not, if the illness was a long time ago it is likley they will not care though
