Why so many nuclear plants in Illinois?
I recently saw a map of the usa that had nuclear facilities overlaid and noticed a cluster in illinois. So my question is did the state of Illinois offer incentives or some other attraction to nuclear operators to develop in the state?

Illinois has more nuclear power plants than any other state in the nation. Commonwealth Edison owns 13 nuclear reactors, 10 of which are in operation; one was down 20 years prematurely because of excess radioactive contamination. Illinois Power Company owns one reactor. One-hundred-eight reactors operate nationwide.
The first experimental reactor pile ever built in the USA was built at the University of Chicago in the 1940's and it produced the fuel for the first atom bombs.
