Why do I get a sore throat when I eat pineapple?
I don't mean an allergic reaction type thing with swelling and wheezing but just a sore throat. I know there is something in pineapple that tenderises meat - is that what is making my throat sore?
I didn't realise this might be the start of a true allergic reaction - I do get the full blown thing with other foods. I'll be careful in future.

It's still an allergic reaction, it's a pre-stage for the swelling, and wheezing.
So be careful, it could be next time you eat it, you'll get a more serious reaction.

It's not an allergic reaction. The "eyes" of pineapples cause burning and irritation if eaten. Because of the ways they're cut, even if you buy canned, the juice holds the chemicals from the eyes and will burn. The same thing happens to me. I quit eating it when I feel the vague burning.

Obviously it is the acidity of the fruit that is irritating your throat try not to eat things with High acid acid as in pineapple orange lemon lime cordials fruit juices etc and see if this helps never heard of this do you have reflux? Hope this helps Granny M x

try to peel it befor eating it and that green bit on top loose it too LOL. Just kidding u could have some alergic reaction to them
