Help. Got a job, but don't know any info. Do I have to contact JSA?

I got a job offer at McDonalds and had my welcome meeting last week. Since then I haven't had any contact, because the day I was supposed to come back, the manager wasn't in. Now I don't know when my job is starting and I'm not even sure if they would still consider me any more :s

I have already signed the contract with the salary and all and my manager has also signed on it, but I haven't had any contact with the manager so far.

Should I contact JSA that I got a job? Or should I wait until my first shift begins? Reason why I'm thinking of not telling: I might not even get the job and would have to start the whole JSA application procedure again.

You can leave it until you are sure, they won't penalise you for it as they pay JSA in arrears, not in advance.  Wait until the first day that you are properly working and know your hours and everything, and then just either pop into to the jobcentre on the way home or give them a ring and say 'I've got a job now', and that's all.  If you're working under 16 hours a week you can still get a small amount of benefit.  As for the welcome meeting, if you didn't get paid for it and you've got a contract saying that you were hired from last week, you still won't lose your JSA for that week as you haven't done any paid work.  And if you did get paid for it, it obviously won't have been 16 hours worth of pay, so you will still get something for that week.
