Stuck on shower head?

Question

i live in an apartment and i bought a new,bigger shower head. i tried to get it off but it looks like they (the apartment maintenance) glued or stuck it on with some kinda of white paste. anyone know how to get this off so i can put my shower head on it?

i know i could just simply ask for the maintenance guy to come but i want to try it myself.

Lola, That white stuff is not glue. It's called, "pipe dope". It's there to make a water-tight seal for the connection between the shower head and the pipe threads the shower head is screwed onto. Lola, just have your maintenance guy do it for you. If you get that shower head off and you put on your new one without putting more pipe dope on those threads or some teflon tape, your new shower head will propably leak right there at the connection. The white paste is Teflon to seal the threads. It's not a glue so the head should unscrew with the help of a wrench or pliers.

The white paste is just a sealent.Use two wrenches ( pipe wrenches) and hold the downspout with one wrench and use the other on the shower head.Turn shower head counter clockwise.You may be able to use pliers or channel locks to remove shower head if you have no pipe wrenches.

I have seen white silicone used on these before,it sets like rubber and would have a good grip but should twist with a bit of force.if you do not have a good pliers try loop a rubber band around the hose end for a better grip.worked for me once.
