To fellow Hindus: Jim Carrey...?
To all fellow Hindus on this forum, I would like to ask what your opinions are on Jim Carrey who mocked Bhagwan Ganesh in a comedy skit on NBC recently, associating Ganesh with some 'tantrik sex' scenario.
Personally, I am quite upset and would like both NBC and Carrey to apologize for such a shameful act. Why wasn't there an outcry from Hindus.
Am I overreacting?
@ Eyes Of Earth:
The video link does not work. And what do you mean "waking up"?
@Corey:
Christians can speak for their own faith. Who am I to feel bad on their behalf. If they think something is out of line, they can definitely speak up if they wish so.
A simple, honest question disgusts you...WOAH. Don't you think its you who is overreacting...
Also, because I condemn Jim Carrey for this action doesn't mean I agree with his anti-vaccination philosophy. How did you reach that particular conclusion.

Jim Carrey discourages vaccinations, endangering the lives of thousands, and a comedy sketch (which sounds likes its *satirizing* new agers who thoughtlessly "borrow" aspects of eastern religions, mashing them around without regard for their cultural context) is what you find shameful? Even Christianity is used in jokes, what makes you think Hinduism would get special deference.
Yes, you're overreacting. It's kind of disgusting. Seriously, "discourages preventative medicine, endangering public health" doesn't phase you, but oh no, someone said "Ganesh" during a comedy routine.

Personally, yes, I think you are overreacting. I don't worship Gods who cannot take a joke. Being of advaita leaning, I think Mr. Carrey was making fun of himself in truth. Christians, I think, would be more prone to protest because they seem to lack a sense of humour more often than not about their religion.

Just avoid such shows.
There is Tantric sex of Ganapaty.Ther are 32 types on Ganapaty. One is like this On his lap his wife he is copulating with her.
There is nothing bad in sex. Sex is not a sin. It is not dark. But many hindus are not hindus but christian hindus. So they fear sex.
Cultureless people mock their parents sex also.

That's probably because Hindus have a higher moral code and avoid watching shows that invite morally depraved people.
Therefore most people watching the show, don't care. They know offensive material is expected.

It's understandable that American comedians lack expert knowledge of Hindu beliefs. I wouldn't be surprised if many Indians have misunderstandings about western religions.

We Hindus are so broad minded and tolerant that we do not adversely react on such matters. We avoid watching such scenes. No revenge. God is kind .
