When to drink high calorie protein shake?

I used to drink cytosports cytogainer 20 minutes after going to the gym, then once everyday, unless I didn't go to the gym for a few days. For the past 1 and a half years, I didn't gain much weight from that brand, and it actually just provide 390 calories.

Now I changed to a GNC Weight Gainer 1850, ingredients are maltodextrin, protein blend (whey, egg albumen, dairy whey, calcium casinate), sugar, sugar, cocoa, flavoring, aminogen, carbogen, etc

To get 1850 calories, I need to take 3 cups (390g) of powder, and 24 oz milk, which is too much to drink at once. So I just take half the recommended intake.

My metabolism is quite high, and I'm taking the protein drink to gain weight, and muscle mass.

So should I take the protein shake before working out, after, both, before I sleep, etc?

    what you gotta do is split up ur protein intake so you get approximately 30-60 grams depending on ur body weight every 2-4 hours basicaly 6 meals a day with solid protein... thats how u maximize nutrient intake... ur body cannot process 80 grams of protein at one time for example you will just pee out the extra nutrients and gain fat in the mean time... split up ur intake so youre muscles are constantly fed.. make sure u get carbs in those meals too... eat veggies as well

    Technically you can, but its really not a good thing to do. Protein shakes are 'Supplements'. This means that they should supplement a diet, not replace it. Body builders and weight trainers use protein shakes to get extra protein throughout the day when they're short on time, or just to boost the amount they've had alongside solid foods. Protein shakes by themselves don't have the full range of nutrients you get from a healthy diet, and a lot of shelf bought protein mixes are loaded with sugars which will have the opposite effect of what you do (they're made like this to boost insulin levels immediately after a heavy workout - not intended for snacking on). As for high calorie shake? They're not called weight gainers for no reason! You definitely don't want one of these if you're trying to lose weight! They are calorie dense to help you pack on size, not lose it. Your best bet is to do some regular exercise and eat 3-6 healthy meals a day. By September you should be able to drop about 10lbs if you're strict with HEALTHY food choices and exercise.

    The best time to take any high caloric food or shake is after the work out. However, if you have trouble drinking it at once, drink half the recommendation before you start working out and the another half after your work out. This way you will take the recommended intake, which in turn, will help you in gaining muscle mass.

    I would drink bits at different times throughout the day. Morning before or with breakfast is always nice because it helps your metabolism get started quick. Definitely after you work out still because the protein will go right to tired muscles. I wouldn't recommend before sleep because it won't do much for you there, most likely, it will go to waste. I would go morning, afternoon a little after lunch, and after a workout.

    I really thought i knew everything about building muscle and gaining weight, I read every muscle magazine, and followed every stupid strength training phase that they invented.     I'd recommend taking it within 1 hour after exercising, when your body is primed to absorb nutrients and maybe also at dinner, so that it is in your system and your body has material for rebuilding itself during sleep...
