anybody familiar with philippines to the U.S process?
about 5 months ago a friend introduced me to a friend she had back in the phils. at first I thought it would be nothing more than an online penpal friendship, however we have fallen in love with each other. my friend explained to me the process as she knew it to be it six years ago when she was brought over. I was hoping to streamline it, and devised this plan: I would go to visit here and meet her family in march, and then return home. in april or may I would purchase her plane ticket for her, and she would just apply for a visitors visa to the U.S. which I think goes for 14 days. while she is here we get married and then only have to go about proving to the U.S Govt.that it is legitimate. instead of having to go through the red tape of both countries. my friend says there is almost no chance of it being this easy, she said something to the effect there is a 6 month process for her to even leave the country. I realize it will be best for me to sit down with an immigration attorney, but it is now the holiday weekend and I was hoping somebody here would know the ins and outs of my situation, thanks in advance for anybody that takes the time to help.
to: Jan I stated that I will be going to visit her and meet her family in march. marrying her there and returning together, then applying for a spousal visa seems the way to go. I still plan to meet with an immigration attorney this week. to the 1st person that answered, valid concern that maybe she is like the many that would just marry for a visa/green card. if that were the case here, she probably would have balked and moved on when I posed that I move there. she said that she would be fine with that. one could not glean so much from just talking or chatting online, but with webcams I have been able to learn alot about her through her eyes. and of course I will be going for an actual visit for that one on one test. thanks to both for your input. happy new year

The Philippines is on a sort of blacklist for tourist visa's to the US because of fraud. To get a tourist visa pretty much requires her to be from a rich family with large assets in the Philippines.
The only ways are a fiancee or spousal visa. You will need to have first met her in person within the last 2 years. You'll need proof of a relationship being copies of phone call records, copies of emails, copies of IM messages, and pictures together.
K1 Fiancee visa takes about 8-10 months while a K3 spousal visa 9-12 months. A K-1 visa requires getting married within 90 days of arrival in the US after she gets the visa and arrives and then an expensive change of status filing. A K3 visa she can work soon as she lands and no change of status needed.
She'll also need to pass the interview and medical exam at the US Embassy in Manila.

You can try to post a similar question at the Travel Asia Philippines section and I am sure you will get a lot of answers from those who already did the same thing you are planning to do (and not just give you some answer which they heard somebody told them about).
To give you a short reply though, if she does not have a US VISA yet, it will almost be impossible for a Filipina (female from the Philippines) especially one who is single and not filthy rich or has a special skill to obtain a tourist visa to the USA. So that is not the way to go.
And from what I heard, it does take some time but I am guessing not that long (6 years). And you guys have to apply for a fiancee visa or something like that.

Before you can file for anything for her,you will have to meet her face to face.
Entering with a visitors visa with the intent to marry is visa fraud.
She will have a difficult time getting a visitor visa because immigration would assume she is intending to do exactly as you are planning, come here and never leave.
Either go to the Philippines and marry her there and then come home and apply for a spousal visa or file a fiance visa to bring her here and do it the right way.
Your friend is right,it won't be as easy as you think it is going to be.

I like you dreamers you really entertain
Unfortunately you plan has many problems
first off there is a million phiilipino girls who will love you long time for a chance of a green card
next they will never get a tourist visa to the US because they overstay
What you can do is file for a Fiancee visa then wait up to a year for that to go thru
before she arrives or a spousal visa if you get married while out there
you need to earn enough to cover the affidavit of support
Follow the flowcharts here

No, the relationship of the U.S. and the Philippines is too intertwined to really fairly replace through election of Barack Obama. many of the officer middle of the Philippine defense force were educated with the aid of u . s .. also quite some the alternative makers on the part of the Philippine authorities or on the part of the competition have links with u . s .. One in undemanding words has too seem on the shape of cases Philippine officials or the competition and their instantaneous kin visit u . s .; so as check out the binds between both countries. notwithstanding, the Barack Obama presidency received't fairly influence the Philippines. Mr. Obama is inheriting an financial disaster; he will turn inward for the extra ideal part of his first 3 years as president. u . s . participation in international affairs will decrease and this can recommend decreased help to the Philippines. u . s . will pull out from the numerous difficulty spots of the international because it re-evaluate its position as international policeman. this project will be worse for the Philippines because the defense force will really adventure decreased help from its U.S. benefactor. The Philippines is combating a 2 the front insurgency; the first with the communist NPA and the 2d with the islamic MILF; with out continuous U.S. help and intensified combating the insurgency will eat worthwhile factors needed for progression. So in words of the decreased U.S. help which an Obama presidency will somewhat push; the Philippines will be worse off.
