guinea pig oweners does your guinea pig do this?

Question

Last night one of my guinea pigs Jerry spent over half the night taking the wire off his water bottle <the bottle was full, I had filled it that night> when I got up the bottle was on the floor and it took me a while to find the wire because he had it sitting on top of his food bowl. I put it all back together and he took it off again and I caught him playing with the clip. I made sure he has plenty of things to do in his cage when I'm at work so its not like he's bored or anything.

Why is he doing this? and for guinea pig owners does your guinea pig<s> do anything odd like this?

Guinea pigs are naughty little 2 year old kids and love to have a blast playing which is what they are doing when they are messing with the water bottle or chewing on the bars on the cage, They love the sounds they make it is like music to them!! Some tend to do it more then other, my Hoshi loves to chew on the cage for hours on end, he has every thing in his cage any guinea pig could possibly want to play with, his door is open all the time so he can come and go at will, but nope he would rather make music on the bars, especially if i am in the room and he knows i will hear him!!

Can you hang the wire on the outside of the cage so that he can't undo it?  If not there are other water bottle options available like special plastic clips at the base and top of the water bottle to hold it in place.  You can get these at any pet store.  Good luck!

Smart lettle bugger. My Cavy Punkin does stuff like this. They are the special devious type of Cavy that seems more devilish than anyone else.

I ended up putting those bird water cups in my C&C type pen. It's the larger parrot cup with the wire prongs that allow it to hang on the inside of the cage. I placed mine about 3 rungs up and they will stand up on thir back feet and rest their fronts on the cups to drink. They get stuff in the water off their feet so I have to change it daily, but they have never been happier.

Your pig may not be getting as much water as it wants from the sipper. I don't understand how a creature with a mouth shaped like a pigs can be expected to drink out of those contraptions anyway!
Maybe he is trying to get to the water in the bottle?

Good luck!  I would lace a heavy dish of water in with him and see how that floats his boat. The parrot cups I bought were $1.99 for a 2 pack at PetSmart. You just need to make sure they can be secured as they are front heavy due to thier shape.
