All the Indians I know are Gujarati, and have told me they feel the same way about Bangladesh and Kashmir : It's all muslim so let the muslims have it.

The power struggle seems to come from the govt, not the Hindu Indians.

On a side note, I understand why Indians feel slighted when the US claims Pakistan is an "ally". Shortly after 9/11 they told me if we want to find Bin Laden, look under Mushareff's bed. India is often attacked but Americans never hear about it on the news. We are missing a good friend in India.

Please be careful about two different cases while comparing. Whatever happened in former East Pakistan(EP), now Bangladesh, aws the handiwork of RAW of India, ordered by first Lal Bahadur Sastri & later Indira Gandhi. Dharmveer Bharti, editor of Hindi weekly of The Times of India Publication, Bombay, that, before Tashkent Summit in Moscow, Mukti Bahini existed & he secretly visited its camps & he was sent up to the wooded border by the vehicle of prime minister with his son Sunil Shastri accompanying him(May, 5, 1990 issue). RAW was asked to frame plans with the senior officer Girish Chandra(Garry) Saxena, the incharge of that. Mukti Bahini(meaning freedom army) was NOT of most of locals as propagated by Indian media. It was mostly of RSS men as disclosed 2 months ago by T V Raj Shekhar , an award holder journalist & researcher od Dalit Sahitya Acedemy, Bangalore in his fortnightly 'Dalit Voice'. Morarji Desai, Indian former pm, disclosed in his autobiography that real Mukti Bahini(30,00,000) people were actually Indian army COMMANDOES. He further disclosed that in 1970 general elections in East Pakistan, Indian armymen in guise of locals voted enmasse & rigged. No wonder, most of Mukti Bahinites were Indians except 2 % locals for guiding them in interior routes. Indian govt later accepted that India raised them, trained & armed heavily to make underground base camps & do all sorts of terrorism to destabilise EP, before India attacks. EP was an UNDISPUTED TERRITORY, a part of Pakistan unlike Kashmir which is a DISPUTED TERRITORY(UNSC RES., dt. 21 April, 1948), i.e., NOT A PART OF INDIA. any so called uprising in EP was INTERNAL MATTER of Pakistan, India having NO RIGHT to interfere but India DID INTERFERE on that foreign soil. Thus, at the name of Mukti Bahini terrorist operations by bombing & destroying bridges, railway lines, govt offices, schools, colleges, foodgrain godowns, mosques & houses of people, Indian army VIOLATED INTERNATIONAL LAW & hence, Pakistan became prey of internal & EXTERNAL conspiracy, the military action by Pakistan army was INEVITABLE. Gen. Tekka Khan(Kashmiri) was superb in efficiency but he should not have done the military action so fast b coz many innocents got killed too in that on which the world media got golden opportunity to make great hue & cry. >95 % killed were Hindus, mostly of India & rest of EP too. It was an opportunistic Indian approach to fish in troubled water & break the neighbour in two parts so that govts of two become different & so, army too become different & so, the strategic pressure of ONE NATION at two sides(East & West) of India is reduced to one side only, the main reason, NOT justification of attack by creating the condition deliberately. That war took 9 months (March to December 1971). Jimmy Carter's diary's entries, all published , show all realities, American govt knew well Indira Gandhi made up her mind to attack well in advance. 10,00,000 refugees can not be the excuse of attacking a nation as 70,00,000 refugees left Afghanistan after Soviet invasion in 1979 & took refuge in Pakistan & Iran but the two nations did not attack the nation to make separate nations out of Afghanistan for them. International Commission of Refugees of UNO takes care of such matters. India should have contacted that commission for their return, rehabilitation & compensation instead of TAKING LAW IN HER HANDS by INVADING & BREAKING THE NATION of refugees as she did , a heinous crime, NOT DESERVING CONDONATION. So, If India says that she was RIGHT by attaking EP(undisputed in 1971), Pakistan is similarly justified in attacking any undisputed Indian state say Punjab for making Khalistan, if that need arises & attacking openly a disputed state(& hence NOT LEGALLY A PART OF INDIA TOO) like Kashmir is a MUCH SMALLER crime which she still did not do. Even then Indians SHOUT too much. Of course, one sin of a foreign nation can NOT justify similar sin as retaliation but the armed conflict can be avoided by good SOLID understandings for peace coexistence on TRUST basis for good FUTURE for both having no TRUST DEFICIT of today's atmosphere, b coz of incompetence of politicians & intelligence agencies of both sides. Bagladesh or Kashmir cases are NOT Hindu-Muslim questions. Interestingly, Bangladeshis favour Pakistan & Kashmir causes strongly & never favour India who has lost all goodwill of Bangladesh by depriving the nation of her due share of water for 25 years by closing all 44 doors of Farakka Barrage in summer of every year making North Bangladesh a desert till Indian pm H D Deve Gauda solved the problem permanently, farsightedly lookinbg for good future free from headaches at the eastern front but your such question will deteriorate that & open old wounds. It is best in the interest of India, Pakistan & Kashmir to solve Kashmir problem speedily as per U N Charter & International Law & make South Asia, a zone of peace & brotherhood & progress speedily like Asian Nations at least.
