How do you thicken text in Photoshop CS5?

Question

I know the bold, faux bold and stroke methods but all of which seem to lose quality to the text (i.e. the 'sharpness' of the font). I've also tried the crisp, sharp, etc. options but those arent thick enough. Essentially I'm looking for something in-between faux bold and regular text.

Use a bold type like Gil sans bold, or Rockwell bold.  Then type your text lets say a black text on a white background.
Press CTRL + J to make a copy of the text layer.  This works the best if you go to CTRL T to bring up the Free Transform tool. Then right click inside the box and choose perspective.
Hold the ALT and the Shift key and adjust eith ther the right or the left corner down  to give your text an angle.
Now hold down the CTRL key  and press on the right or the left arrow key.  Press it 8 ot 10 times.
Now hold the CTRL key down and click on the thumbnail of the top copy in the layers palette.
Right click on this selection and click Rasterize.
Now fill it with another color like orange and you will have very thick type.

If you use the Distort key on the Free Transform box you can lay this text over so it is flat, then use the up arrow key to make it high.
