This is probably because of convectional rain.
Convectional rain is formed this way:
(i) Hot Sun heats up air directly adjacent to the ground
(ii) The air above the ground heats up, expands, becomes lighter, and rises
(iii) As they rise, they meet the cold air in the sky
(iv) The rising hot air condenses to form water droplets --> forming clouds
(v) When too much water droplets are collected, the clouds cannot hold them. Therefore they fall as RAIN!
So as convectional rain is formed on the basis of heating up air on the ground, when it is 110 degrees on one day, the ground is significantly heated up so the air is also heated up. Then it rises and undergoes a cycle which results in heavy convectional rain. There's this NO RAIN --> RAIN --> NO RAIN cycle going on here :D
Hope this helped! :D

i don't know of any places in california where it is 110 one day and 65 the next. temps can vary
along the coast. we can have a heatwave where it's 90 degrees one day then 65 or 70 in a day or two if the marine layer returns. we
can also have a santa ana wind condition with 85 degree weather in january then a cold spell
where it's 55. earthquake weather is a myth from 400BC when aristotle thought hot, calm
weather caused earthquakes.

because California = Illinois with weather changes
Trust me, every summer here is like the Sahara desert and the winter are, well, Chicago winters
