Why haven't you read the bible?

I read the bible front to back when I was 15.

But I am no Christian.

Many rely too much on the preaching of pastors. As followers of Christ, we should be deeply rooted in the truth. The source of truth is God and those who belong to Him have access to His Holy Spirit. We should be first and foremostly lead by the Holy Spirit. God is good to lead us away from lies and deceptions, for there are many.

Another issue: Although the KJV is more difficult for some to understand, it is still the most accurate English Bible translation we have. Many churches and Bible schools use the NIV and other versions of the Bible which contain serious errors and omissions. See below for further information.

You can´t compare Harry Potter with the bible! Harry Potter is a great, fantastic, dramatic and funny story. The bible can be fantastic, too, but in my opinion it´s too scary, boring and ridiculous. But I agree that people living their lives based on a 2-thousand-year-old poorly written fiction book they haven´t even read are stupid.

Hey look, and listen intently and with your full attention, telling people, to "read the bible" is not enough.

If you don't "study it" as an entirety and with the entirety of the own documentation of the scriptures available unto mankind , you will NEVER understand it, anywhere near enough, to know what you are reading!

God "is Commitment(Love)". How anyone could think they could possibly understand Him, or His Word, adequately, by anything but His Own word, and as they learn how to live in and out from commitment(love), themselves, it is a marvelously erroneous consideration to think that they could know what they are even dealing with, to even so much as reject it. Without study, they would not even know what they are rejecting.

Without complete commitment with matching effort, you cannot understand the things of God adequately.

It's interesting. I haven't read it all though. I know people who have read it 10 times.

The reason people haven't read it all is probably because it's religious. They'd rather read something that they KNOW is fiction than something that could possibly be true, or not, and they just don't want to have that on their minds all day.

The churches would much rather you not read it. (Owning a bible not in latin was heresy for many years.)

They would much rather you listened to the parts that they pick for their sermons to support their position, and the nice bits that they cherry pick for bible classes that make the bible look nicer and more consistent.

its very " entertaining ".. especially the parts about killing and torturing and raping people..

If Christians believers where concerned (a little) about humanistic examples they will never believe a God had anything to do with that.

Eh it seems boring I'd rather read a better fiction classic like jane eyre.

I've probably read it straight through at least a half dozen times, and various parts of it more than I can count.

it's long and boring and i can't force myself to read more than a couple chapters at a time. i'm working on it though. even though i'm an atheist and it doesn't really matter that much.
