How often can I use a box hair color?

I found a color I really like. So, for the first time I just colored the roots rather than my whole head. Unfortunately, since reds fade, now the roots are WAY more red than the rest of my hair. How long should I wait before I use another box color treatment on my whole head to even everything out? It looks terrible at the moment, but I don't want to fry my hair or turn it orange or something.

Colour isn't as damaging as people (and the packaging) tend to say, so you can use it a little more frequently than the box recommends if you treat your hair well between colours. In this case I would say give it a couple of days (and a good conditioning or two) and then colour your whole head. That should sort it.

The next time you touch up your roots, let the dye sit just on your roots for about 5-10 minutes and then comb the dye from the roots through to the tips to blend it in with the rest of your hair, kick up the existing colour and keep it fresh. Leave the colour on for a total of 25-35 minutes (or whatever the box recommends). This is especially helpful if you happen to switch shades (slightly) for any reason.

If you're worried about damaging your hair, you can pick up a treatment with moisture and/or protein to cut down on any breakage or weakening of the hair you might be experiencing (use once a week or so). Sally Beauty and other open-to-the-public cosmetology supply stores have a seemingly endless supply of such treatments. My favourites are the Ion Effective Care Intensive Treatment (with protein; use once a week) and the Ion Colour Defense Intense Moisture Hydrating Treatment (no protein; better for every day conditioning) - both from Sally. The little conditioners that come with your colour are also perfectly fine for keeping your hair healthy between colours, I just find that I run out before the next touch-up.

you can re-dye your whole head within the next few days.

I mean if it's really that terrible., then just do it.

-Although you normally shouldn't re-dye your hair so soon after., because you risk drying out or damaging your hair more if your consistently dying it.

But... this also depends on your hair and the treatment it gets in between as well.

    - If you do decide to dye it again., make sure you even out the colour.. since you focused on your roots already. try and focus on the actual strands of hair.. rather than the roots more or less to avoid going orange at the roots and having yet again., 2 diff. colours of red. In other words, minimal colour to the roots and more on the strands.

    - If and when you dye your hair. you should wait at least 1.5 - 2 months before you consider doing anything else to your hair.

    - You should also invest in some colour treatment shampoo/conditioner for your hair., just so you go that extra mile to ensure it doesn't stay damaged or gets dried out.

On the box it says to wait 4-6 weeks but I searched it up and people said they've used it right away within the same week or so and nothing happened so i did the same.

My hair did get a little dry but i used dry to damaged hair shampoo/conditioner and used the leave in conditioner that came with the hair dye and my hair is in pretty good condition.

If you want a suggestion for hair dye brands, i really like the garnier nutrisse avocado and fruit concentrate oils one? it's the green box. it really does moisturize your hair.

if not, you get go for the revlon colorsilk one. it's a pretty cheap one but works well as well. :)

A week should be sufficient, however if you are using a product that contains ammonia it should not be used for 2-3 weeks. Good Luck with your look...~M~

Re color it now it should be fine. Then don't recolor for another 4 to 6 weeks.

    I hope this helps
