I am a military wife and I want my own retirement check?
Hi, my husband is active duty and when he has put in 20 years, he will receive a retirement check each month. I want my own retirement check one day. We move every 3-4 years so working for "the state" won't work. Is there a national company I can't think of that I can work for 20 years and get a monthly retirement check one day?
My plan now is to contribute each year to my Roth IRA, but that's not going to add up too fast. When I go to work for a new company, I have to wait a year before I can contribute to 401K, so that hasn't worked out too well for me. It'll be about 13.5 years before my husband retires and I could possibly start a career then where I can work for 20 years straight some where and I'll be nearing 45 years old....not the ideal age to start working towards retirement.
Can you think of any national companies that I could work for over the next many years that offer retirement checks for 20 years of service?
Thanks

It will be difficult to find a national company that will allow you to transfer wherever you want every 3-4 years.
For now, you should concentrate on maxing out your Roth IRA contributions - you can contribute up to $5k per year (a little over $400/month), which may not be a huge amount, but it can add up. If you invest it in good stock mutual funds, you could reasonably expect an average annual return of 8-9%, which would add up to around $260K after 20 years. Not a huge amount, but not chump change, either.
Not all employers require a full year of service before you can participate in a 401k - mine, for example, only requires 6 months, and some allow you to begin immediately. Even if you're only participating for a couple of years, that can still add up (especially if your employer offers a match), and you can still take your balance with you when you leave - just do a rollover into an IRA.
I hope that helps - good luck!

Your tale isn't so sparkling (are you in Korea or the U. S.?), yet as a couples and kin therapist i'm very familiar with alimony and newborn help subject concerns interior the U. S.. i comprehend this is frightening, however the funds is for the toddlers, no longer the ex's own play fund, and maximum state rules on condition that a spouse is entitled to 0.5 of all kin materials earned on an identical time as married. save in mind that when a divorce adult males in many cases get better financially in under 5 years on an identical time as the female's common of residing declines by skill of 40 5-70% and does not rebound.
