A certain electric extension cord has a resistance of 5.92 Ω. Suppose it is replaced by an extension cord made of the same material. The replacement cord is five times the diameter of the original and five times as long. What is the resistance of the new cord?

for any cord the resistance is R = s L / pi r^2 , where 's' is resistivity, L is the length and 'r' is the raidus of the cord.
hence, we see that R is proportional to ( L / r^2 )
ie., R1 / R2 = L1 /L2 x ( r2 / r2 )^2
so, the new resistance R2 = R1 x (L2/L1) (r1/r2)^2 = 5.92 x 5L /L x ( r / 5r )^2 = 1.184 ohm
