where can i find someone to perform an outdoor wedding ceremony in puerto rico?

my fiance and I are getting married in Ponce, Puerto Rico on the 28th of august this year. we need someone to perform our outdoor ceremony. we are catholic but we realise it is very difficult to get a priest to perform a ceremony outside of the church so we are willing to have a non denomination religious ceremony or to be married by a judge or justice of peace as long as its a nice ceremony. could anyone recommend anyone or know where i could find someone. help would be much appreciated

If you are getting married at a hotel/resort, your coordinator should be able to hook that up for you.I would try to get in touch with whoever they reccomend and email them what you want them to say at the ceremony.

I am Catholic as well, and had a non-denominational ceremony. We had him say a few things that meant alot to us that would have been said in a Catholic Church ceremony. We had a let us pray moment and also had him recite psalms that were special to us.

I suggest you talk to your parish priest or parish wedding coordinator first.

All Catholic sacraments are public, not private, events. Even weddings.

These are occassions for the entire church community to come together and celebrate the union of a man and a woman . Although everyone is not necessarily invited to the reception, no one is turned away from the actual wedding ceremony.

Because of this communal quality of the Sacrament of Marriage, the Code of Canon Law says a marriage is ideally to be celebrated in the parish church.

However a marriage can be celebrated:

    • In another church with permission of the bishop or pastor

    • In any other suitable place with permission of the bishop

For more information, see the Code of Canon Law, section 1118: http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG1104/__P40.HTM

    With love in Christ.

Why is it difficult? Maybe your priest is just a stick in the mud. We were married at my University because the organist at my church said we could only choose between two pieces of music and nothing else. If your parish priest won't hold an out door service, then check with other churches.
