If I cancel my At&t plan...?
So here is the deal. I am currently have an iPhone that is billed to my parents family plan. I just got a new job that will pay for 50% of any phone plan that I have. So I am planning on canceling my plan with my parents when the new iPhone comes out, my only concern and question is... Will I be able to keep my phone number if I do it this way? I do not want to loose my phone number and will figure something else out to prevent this from happening.
Thanks for the help.

if you cancell your line you lose your number. all you have to do is a transfer of billing responsibiltiy. you get to keep your phone number, your parents do not get billed an early termination fee, all is right with your world.

I'm a former AT&T employee. If you cancel your phone line (meaning it's not active) you will not be able to transfer the phone number to another account. The best way to do this is to wait until you have no more contact commitment (meaning you are not in a 2-year contract) then take your phone number into a separate AT&T account. - You must do this through an AT&T corporate store (or you can call over the phone but some of the CS reps are dumb so I recommend going to the store) w/ your parents present.
Does your new job have a corporate account? Or are they just paying whatever regular account you have through AT&T? Some companies allow an easy transfer of their employee's numbers/accounts into theirs but it's a pain the butt when you leave the company to take your number.
If I were you, I'd yank my number to a pay-as-you-go phone from T-Mobile then open a new AT&T and get that number transferred back to AT&T. You have to keep in mind that sometimes they don't allow transferring of an AT&T phone number to another AT&T account. It's only cross carriers such as T-Mobile to AT&T but not AT&T to AT&T.
It's been a while since I worked at AT&T so I don't know if all these still hold true. Please feel free to correct me. :)

If you cancel it then you will lose your number, you have to transfer the number to the new plan.
