49ers, building for next year (again)?

how much better (or worse) would it be if we somehow picked up terrell owens AND michael vick, while building an o-line from our first few draft picks? would it be a good idea to take this into consideration if the organization finally decides to give alex smith the boot? or is nate davis, proven or unproven, the missing piece to what we need in a starting qb?

obviously our defense is up to par, but it has defintely made an improvement each and every year. it's hard to see very good veterans like clements, spikes, and willis play hard all season long only to come up at the short end of the stick.

Update:

check it. duh. to IS past his prime. he doesn't have much to brag about any more BUT he would still serve as a great decoy and his leadership would prove worthy for guys like morgan and crabtree.

vick would definitely serve as a qb that could work well in and out of the pocket. he doesn't hesitate as much as most qb's do and w/ the lack luster effort that the o-line has shown for the past few years, we NEED a versatile qb to make explosive plays happen when they need to be made.

i think alex smith is a good qb at best. is he good enough to take the niners into the play-offs? definitely. but we're all looking for him to show that maturity and leadership level of guys like brees and manning. he puts a lot of the teams' woes on his back but he doesn't do enough to correct his own mistakes...

if he doesn't win these next 2 games in stellar fashion...the niners organization and their fans are really going to start doubting his credibility as the starting qb. REALLY.

owens? yeah right foo he's done.

miguel vick? eh. indifferent on him. not a better passer than smith but is a playmaker, so whatever. if they add him cool, if they dont eh, watever.

and yeah the right side of the o-line needs to improve. staley, baas and heitman are beasts. rachal is improving, give the guy some time and idk what the hell is going on in the right tackle

davis aint the answer and idk about smith. smith can develop into a good qb but not a great qb. he just needs some time. id like to see him get a whole year starting but idk if thats gonna happen

to make the playoffs, they need another cb, pass rusher, right tackle, depth on oline and give the ball to frank gore

They have already showed their defensive line and linebackers excluding their secondary can measure up to among the best in the league. Their secondary is OK.. Anyways, their defense mostly only chokes when they're tired out from the lack of offense. Their lack of offense, definitely not Frank Gore, their receivers are good (no need for a nearing washed up TO that would only cause internal locker room drama). Their o-line, needs work. Their QB, needs major work. First step if I were the Niners, I would look at ---> Alex Smith and toss him away into the SF bay and look for another QB to develop or to sign. Michael Vick might be a good shot, but chances are I'm sure Eagles will resign him as a backup plan to McNabb into the future.

The niners have be building for next year for like the better part of the last decade. It would be terrible to pick up either player mentioned with Vick or Owens. They will make some good moves to be a legit contender next year though, and they already have one of the best Tight ends in the league, and Crabtree should be pretty stellar. Maybe get another good o-lineman to protect Smith to give him a little more time in the pocket, and they will be a good choice.

Michael Vick is a good idea, 3 pro bowls and he is only 29 so he is still in his prime, Terrell Owens is a good pick up for the 49ers in the offseason but he won't do much to defenses because he is past his prime and I think he has lost a step, but I still do think that offense needs veteran leadership and that is what both Micheal and Terrell Bring to the table and having Terrell mentor Michael Crabtree would be a must if Terrell is brought in and then they should go o-line in the draft becuase drafts are always full of talented lineman every year

Well, you seem to forget that Terrell Owens wore out his welcome in San Francisco years ago, and isn't welcome back. And that Michael Vick was/is a terrible quarterback, who is not only injury prone, but is a complete liability in the passing game. If the 49ers don't think Smith is the answer at quarterback, then they have 2 1st round picks this upcoming year and can draft a quarterback, in what should be a very good quarterback class.

Who said that you could have Vick? Please. Like I heard on sports radio tonight. "There are no package deals in the NFL. That's baseball". That was said to some guy who was talking about how maybe the Eagles could trade off Vick and Westbrook as a package deal. And anyone who wants T.O. with all his drama on your team, is a glutton for punishment lol. Ya'll sucked yesterday too. Four turnovers in the first half.

SF needs a new QB. They need to draft a tall QB that is capable of moving the chains, but not necessarily a gunslinger. I can see Tony Pike or Ryan Mallet going there. I think that would solidify their QB situation. They might be able to snag one of them in the 2nd Round, allowing them to draft another need in the 1st Round.

that is what i was saying. i agree they should pick both of them up. i was at monday night football last week and lots of ninner fan were not to happy with alex smith, that would be a good pick up though
