Removing shoes in British homes?

More and more British people remove their shoes at the door and ask visitors to remove their shoes. Will this become the norm in Britain like it is in Japan?

Everyone takes their shoes off, I rarely have to ask, people offer to.

Especially when it is raining like it normally is.

Even got slippers for my best friends and they love it.

Generally this only applies to kids, and we don't have a set of 'indoor shoes' like japan.

It's only there so people don't dirty the house. I have no problem with removing my shoes, and I think the guy above me who does is an idiot, since, you know, it's THEIR home, but whatever.

In any case, no, I don't think it will. Japan has other reasons such as a hangover of spiritual beliefs that encourage that practice, as well as the fact that the papery-style floors they have there are basically impossible to clean. Here it is different - It's purely because of how muddy carpets get, and because most people don't want the hassle of cleaning them. I suppose you could say it is a similarity, but overall it's not really the same.

But I get your point. Do they remove shoes in your home?

I live in Austria and it is customary to remove your shoes. Often a visitor is provided with slippers to wear.

I did this anyway when I lived in England because I feel downright uncomfortable wearing outdoor shoes indoors.

    Much cleaner as well.

i think of with the increasing recognition of laminate flooring (that's far less perplexing to scrub than carpet), people are not as afflicted approximately you removing your shoes interior the homestead. I continually take my shoes off in somebody else's homestead besides (except they say to no longer difficulty). As a popular rule Britain is wetter/muddier, and extra people walk extra suitable distances than usa, so it is comprehensible if being asked to get rid of your shoes is/became extra consumer-friendly.

I always take my shoes off when I get home from school, it is much more comfortable without them. Most of my friends take them off whenever I go round there. Maybe it will become more normal, but there are always going to be people who dont want to follow the crowd ;)

We do this in Canada also. We always take our shoes off when entering someone elses house. When I was in Florida for a few months, whenever I entered someones home and took off my shoes they laughed at me. I couldn't figure it out, I guess there aren't that many of us that take our shoes off?!

Only because its always fricking raining in this stupid country and we don't want the floors to get wet and muddy.

And because it keeps the carpets clean.
