Recommend a Point-and-shoot camera,pls?

Question

Wife and I had a Nikon Coolpix, 5 years old.
Our biggest gripe is that we use it mostly at dusk or at night, and the machine takes very bad pictures in low light. We compared newer cameras from friend, ranging from Canon cybershots, Kodaks and Samsungs, and most of them do a remarkable job at lower light settings, versus ours.
We don't want too much bells and whistles (keyword, point and shoot). Simple menus, video integrated, and finally, decent pictures in low light.
Our budget is under $300.00

Since your expressed concern is low light (high ISO) performance a Canon PowerShot SD780 IS ELPH should fit your requirements with a good ISO 1600 performance. ($199 at Amazon) It has one feature that other brands do not.  A separate optical viewfinder (the little hole you look through at your subject).  LCD viewfinders just don't work well in broad daylight.  If you are going to take pictures outdoors, you should consider getting a camera with an optical viewfinder.  It comes in red, black, silver or gold.
