are there any acronyms or abbreviations that i am missing?

i am making a glossary of the most commonly used or referred to acronyms and abbreviations used in telecommunications (mainly telco stuff)... i know that it is almost impossible to ever have a full complete list since there are so many different ones, and different locations use different ones.. but are there any that you use that are not on my list http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tb4GvdV2Kbs...

Hi, Joe - here are a few others that I could think of without thinking too much :-) . If you want to get into common terms for various calling features, then the list really expands a lot, with many variations depending on switch type (5ESS, DMS100, GTD5 and so on).

Lots of telcos are now into cable TV service - which blurs the line between telco functionality and cable TV company functionality.

What level of detail are you looking for?

    ccw - cancel call waiting

    cff - call forward fixed

    cfv - call forward variable

cocot - company owned coin operated telephone

    cos - class of service

    cot - coin operated telephone

    dn - directory number

    dor - deny origination

    dsl - digital subscriber line

dslam - digital subscriber line access multiplexer

    dtm - deny termination

    dtmf - dual tone multi-frequency

    fx - foreign exchange

    interlata - between other latas

    intralata - within one lata

    ipic - preferred intralata carrier

lata - local access and transport area

    len - line equipment number

pic - preferred interlata carrier (I think)

    rax - rate area exchange

    rtu - remote test unit

scos - secondary class of service

    ss7 - signaling system #7

S&E - service and equipment codes

    tdm - time division multiplexing

    tdn - toll denial

Acronyms. An abbreviation uses part of a word for a shortened form. An acronym is made from two or more words and is the use of all or some of the first letters of the words for a shortened form. The use of acronyms specific to a particular field or interest is part of what is called "jargon." An abbreviation that makes another English word takes a period; such as "in." but others, like "mm" do not.
