My computer keeps freezing up, what do I do?

Every time I use my computer, I get about 30 to 120 minutes of play time (usually less or more...depending on the day) before it freezes up on me.

I have a eMachines T6536 Desktop PC and it runs on Windows XP.

I'm resolved to just restarting when it freezes and to pick up where I left off (which is extremely infuriating), so any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. What I mean by "freezing" is that it doesn't respond to keyboard commands or mouse movements whatsoever. Usually, when I'm playing a song on my computer it'll replay a snippet of it's track when it froze. (i.e. if a part of the song said "fire" it would repeat the r sound infinitesimally until I restarted it.)

Your computer might be over heating. Open your computer and make sure none of your fans have died. If a fan has died then you must replace it right now or fry something.

This might fix, might not but replace the power supply as most emachines come with best-tec and they are garbage.Try replacing

wit5h a higher wattage, brand name like anetec, it won't hurt.

I also would run memtest for the memory, check to see if the cpu is getting ot as it does sound like a heat problem. The thermal grease does dry out and prevents good heat transfer from the cpu to the heatsink.

An extra fan wouldn't hurt either

    These are some sussestions

You might have not enough SDRAM. Go Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / Sysem Information and check status of physical memoty. If numbers are close,it means you have problem with memory.Make upgrade,if possible. If not get rid fom the programs, that need a lot of memoty.

If your computer is freezing it is because you have errors in the Windows registry. Errors in the registry are the main cause of computer freezing and crashing. And unfortunately this is not something you can fix manually. You must use specialized software to do it for you.

After examining all those different solutions, it happened to me that the undertaking could very nicely have no longer something to do with the OS, viruses, or any of that different nonsense. in basic terms placed, it may desire to possibly be a undertaking such as what I had a while in the past. i replaced into experiencing a similar hassles, the only factor i could desire to do replaced into to close it down and attempt back later Lo and behold, i desperate to get a much bigger difficult tension sooner or later, I put in it and the undertaking disappeared. WHY? It seems that the undertaking replaced into that the HDD replaced into at fault. A techie informed me after attempting out it, that a capacitor (a thingie that holds a charge for a definite length of time) in the HDD replaced into no longer functioning and consequently it replaced into overheating and closing itself down. answer: Get yet another HDD, set up the OS, set up all your backups and/or reinstall any classes or video games you want. diverse artwork, yet in spite of this, a comp. is in basic terms a chew of hardware, it may and does destroy down by way of no fault of your man or woman. ;-)

i've seen that before, what i had was spyware crap. get this program

    www.eset.com

scan your system, and clean. and if you got many programs running when you startup then that'll be another reason.

go to start - search - type in (msconfig)

click on startup tab. click the programs you only want running when you start up.

    also check out

    http://www.ccleaner.com/

and if you cannot install these programs let me know, i'll have to tell you a little bit more on what to do...

Also make sure you have free harddrive space. Windows needs a few Gigs of free harddrive space for page file. In addition, you should defrag your harddrive and check how much RAM you have.
