Back in the day of the colony there were many, but they got all mixed in with our local brew. Irish last names are not uncomon, specially O'Neil. The mayor of Guaynabo is part Irish, and there is a local Irish pub in that town that is very popular. (Shanon's). The big mall in Guaynabo is named "San Patrico Plaza" (St Patrick) and has a green three clover leaf as its icon. The past president of one of the houses of the legislature was Kenneth McClintock, also of Irish extraction.

A lot of irish immigrants have inter married with people from Puerto Rico. There are irish origins of people sporadically located in Puerto Rico so dont worry. It is a wonderful place with an outstanding irish heritage. The irish have had a huge impact on agriculture, education and politics in Puerto Rico. One of the most celebrated festivals is St. Patricks day. There are loads of pubs in Puerto Rico that go all out for Paddyes day, especially in San Juan.

Yes, there is a small but active population of Irish immigrants in the island- just as there also exists a history of immigration 'from island to island' dating as far back to 1797 (when renowned Field Marshall Alejandro O'Reilly was employed by the Spanish colonial government of Ultra mar to administer the island's military forces).
The major congregation of 'permanents' reside in the towns of Guaynabo (southeast of the capital) and Boquerón (southwest part of the island). I know of the former because of the high-rate of American and European residents (and friends I had) that lived near the capital lands. I am not sure how the demographics have changed since.
I am leaving you with a couple links of information, including:
1. The history of Irish immigration
2. A news article (in Spanish) about the Irish population of Boquerón
3. A map of Boquerón
4. A link to pubs in the island just in case (look for Shannon's Pub, the popular one)
Saludos

Come over and discover the true beauty of Puerto Rico. I am sure you will love it here. I highly recommend the small yet out going town of Rincon.
