Need help buying a bicycle!?

Hi there...!

I need help buying a bicycle. I am in my early 20's but my moron parents never taught me how to ride a bike. My work is not far from my home and I hate cars and the financial burden they bring.

A bicycle is the perfect investment for me. Can you tell me what bike to buy then? I want a good bike that I can ride in the weekends in the park as well.

There is a lot of grass behind my home where I can practice so I am sure I will learn how to ride a bike fast. Aside from that, I just need a recommendation to buy a bike. Any good brands out there? I have $800 to spend but I am sure a decent bike that will last me many many years will cost WAY LESS than that!!

Of course, I will buy some safety gear as well.

So help me out please!

dude, visit the closest wallmart and buy the cheapest buy you can find, ride it for a while and crash it many times. as many times as you like, then go on craigslist and sell it. Then you have $700 you can get a quality bike that will last you for many years with with the remainder.

My old bike that I got from zellers was bought at $150 - still works amazingly after 12 years. I use it to improve riding as im in early twenties and starting to ride again now..

I still fall down sometimes.. it takes a while if you haven't done it for a while (or at all). There are alot of cycle shops out there trying to take your cash, they are asking you to spend big now..

    cheers

This is perfectly suited for your budget and its a very good "trail-worthy" bike http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/mountain_hard...

MSRP is over $879 but it can be had for 800 or lower. Also ask your dealer if they can give it to you with no taxes. Thats what I did.

Perfect if you want to hit the trails or just bike around town. You might also want to buy a bike lock such as this one http://www.rei.com/product/784881 as the bike really looks good in person and will attract thieves.

I own a Trek 6000 and it has taken all the abuse I've thrown at it in some rugged trails. And until now, the bikes rides smooth and quiet like the day I bought it. Oh did I mention that the bike is pretty light?

P.S. make sure you buy the right size/frame. Ask your dealer to to set you up with the right fit.

I agree with the previous two posters. Your budget is just right for getting a quality bicycle, and that trek would be a perfect bike to get started on. I say purchase the bike shop rather then the bike - meaning buy a bike from the shop you feel most comfortable with- it makes a big difference.

Google bike shops in your area and then visit them. They can help you select a bike.
