Takes hours to fall asleep - if I'm lucky?

I have a horrible time trying to sleep at night. I've been using advil PM and such for the past week but I'm afraid I'm becoming addicted and I would really rather not be dependent on it.

Every night it takes me hours to fall asleep - even with a sleep aid. I've taken Nyquil, Advil PM and Tylenol PM. I have no insurance, so I can't just run to the Dr. I have a B-12 deficiency and take a shot weekly (1cc). I have fibromyalgia and am on Lyrica and also anti depressants.

It takes me several hours to fall asleep. I can sleep during the day, but I don't do it because I don't want to hinder my night time sleep so I've stopped it altogether for months now.

I do have stress in my life- adoption that didn't go through and an ex who owes thousands in support and lies continuously. Happy marriage, happy little boy. Work is good and happy too. Some financial difficulties but we're making ends meet.

Poor eating habits - I struggle with veggies, I hate them :( I stopped drinking Coke but I do drink sweet tea.

I write down anything I'm afraid of forgetting or else I'll never go to sleep. I keep a fan on me because I'll get hot otherwise and I need the sound. It's dark in my room.

I'm tired of waking up tired. The more exhausted I am, the more pain I am in from the fibromyalgia. I really need my sleep but I just can't get it. I can be dead tired but I"ll still lay there for hours. I also have restless leg syndrome which gets annoying. Sometimes I"ll be on the verge of sleep and I'll jerk back awake.

Any tips would be so wonderful and appreciative. I tried to give all necessary information I could think of.

Update:

About the B-12 deficiency - My body doesn't absorb it from the food I eat. This is why I get the injection. I can't take B-12 pills because my body won't absorb those either.

The Celexa is more taken for anxiety than depression. I've had my share of medical problems. I've been misdiagnosed with MS which turned out to be very low B-12 giving me neurological symptoms and something called ADEM - like a one-time MS episode. I also have Fibromyalgia and take Lyrica for that. I hear Insomnia is a symptom of Fibro.

I walk daily and do sit ups and what not. I also have a 5 year old.. a very active five year old. I have to keep up.

I do eat a lot of meat. I also do try to sneak in veggies. Soups is easy for that and sandwhiches work too. I can get carrots down if they're cooked and really soft. It's green stuff i really have problems with.

This is a lot of information to absorb, but I'll try my best. Have you ever tried good old-fashioned exercise? I know we all get some physical activity in during our regular day, but I am talking about actual exercise such as aerobics, running, yoga, etc. I have noticed that I sleep a lot better when I exercise regularly and exercise also releases endorphins which elevate mood and make us feel happier, so that could also help with the reason you are taking antidepressants. The human body needs a very small amount of B-12 and deficiencies are rare. Since you dislike vegetables, I assume you eat your fair share of meat, which is a good source of the vitamin, so I am not exactly sure how you could be deficient. Eating healthier is an important role in sleeping well. Our body needs a variety of foods and nutrients to function and when our diets are not balanced, our bodies suffer. You need to be more adventuruous culinarily and expand your repertoire of foods. To start, just sneak more veggies into what you already eat such as pasta, burgers, etc. Not to mention the fact that you are a role model for your child and if your child doesn't see you making healthy decisions when it comes to food, neither will he. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and some lean meats and fish. You should also drink plenty of water. This does not include what you consume in the form of tea. On the subject of your personal life, you need to report your ex to the authorities. You may not be able to make him pay, but the law can. He can lose his driver's license, go to jail, etc. and if that's what it takes for you to get the money your child deserves, so be it. That will be one less headache in your life. You could also try meditating or relaxing every night before you go to bed. Find a quiet place in your house to sit and relax and just breathe deeply and reflect on things. Use that period to think about what you would like to accomplish or things that are bothering you. There are also teas like Celestial Seasonings Tension Tamer and Sleepytime that can help you feel relaxed, too. Also, taking a soothing bath about an hour before bed can help you sleep as well. Good luck.

theres certain types of alternatives to advil PM that are non habbit forming theres ads on tv of them a lot. maybe you should google 'non habbit forming over the counter sleep aide' and see what you get. its worth a shot.

    i can relate to you.

it takes me hours to fall asleep if at all bc i think constantly about things i shouldnt even be worrying about at the time and usually have to write ideas and such down that come to me before i can even begin to sleep. ive stayed up 5 days straight before all bc i cant bring myself to sleep its unhealthy. i have found staying up a day then sleeping early helps fix my sleep schdeule and such but once i do sleep its been 15-20 hours lately.

just try some of the medicine and try and think about nothing or turn a fan on a focus on the sound with your eyes closed and if all else fails try doing some activity that makes you tired or lay there with your eyes closed and dont ever open them and you should fall asleep eventually.

it helps me maybe it can you.

    all the best
