My Laptop refuses to turn on what's the issue?
I have an HP Pavillion series dv6000 laptop computer. A few days ago the charger broke and was sparking because the cable got frayed and some wires were misplaced as a result. I shut the computer off and used it sparringly for a few days afterward until it finally ran out of power on its own. Since then, I have puchased a new charger ac adapter. However, when I tried to boot up the machine a blue light flashes three times uner the lightning bolt symbol and it doesnt turn on. The blue light at the port for the power cord indicates that the ac adapter is working properly and this has been verified by testing on another laptop of the exact same make and model. Whether the battery is in or out of the machine, it doesnt boot up, however when the battery is out, I noticed that not even the blue power signal lights up. Is my computer simply not receiving the power from the charger for some reason and therefore not feeding it to the battery either? Any help/advice would be much appreciated.
judging from what I'm hearing and seeing, I have either somehow damaged part of the mothernoard or or the connector in the laptop that distributes power to the machine. I have called HP and they wish to charge me 400$ to send it in and have them take a look and possibly fix it. Is there a less expensive venue I could take to solve this problem? and is it possible to open a laptop completely and view its contents (such as the motherboard) without damaging it?

the sparks have damaged the port where the power connector connects to the laptop. I've seen some repair shops fix these in the past, but not sure if they will do that anymore. Try a repair shop. Good luck, hope you're not SOL.
EDIT: if they quoted that much, they are expecting it to be a burned motherboard. try a local repair shop. they are usually cheaper than the manufacturer. You can indeed open it up for a look. That involves removing the keyboard and under-plate. I don't recommend doing it if you're not experienced. Also, it is difficult to obtain laptop motherboards. At this point, if a local shop can't help, I recommend pulling out the hard drive and having it cloned onto a new system. It's cheaper to buy another laptop than deal with the manufacturer.

If it totally ran down the battery, then it will take a few minutes before it will be ably to turn on. So put the battery in, plug it in, and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Then try to turn it on.
The problem is that the battery is so run down that it is pulling all the power from the charger. There is not enough left to run the computer.

Put your battery in the other "Working" laptop and charge it there. Then put it back in your laptop. Run it off the battery only. Does that work? If it does, then my guess is you damaged something with the connector where the power supply plugs in.
If that is the case, then you will want to call HP.
Best of luck,

Bad connector on the MOBO (motherboard) Have it serviced by someone you trust. The entire MOBO will be replaced. Since you already got a new AC adapter and it still doesn't work, then the MOBO is bad

I had an really similar situation with my Toshiba pc. at the starting up it would want to close off randomly, steadily it grew to grow to be extra commonly used. It hasn't grew to grow to be back on for over a month now. curiously it became overheating internally and ultimately fried the gadget board.
