How many middle names?
Hello,
In my family, we all have 2 or 3 middle names all from family members.
With the baby on the way, we are talking about middle names and we can't really agree on which names and how many as middle names.
What do you think about having more than 2 middle names?
Thanks
FYI : It is commun in France, Spain, Italy, Eastern Europe and many other countries.
Actually UK and Scandinavia are the exceptions with only one middle names.

I am french but living in the UK.
The middle names are always name from family member. I have 3 middle names, like my brother and my sister.
When I hear some american first name, this is where you can wander about their intelligence

I think that if you can think of two middle names that you truly, truly want to use for your childs middle name, its absolutely fine.
However, if you just give them extra names with no meaning or story behind it, and only to fill the quota for the number of names, thats not okay.
Personally I think more than one middle name would be really nice, and sounds very sophisticated.
Good Luck :) xx

Most of my family have 2 middle names .
It is quite common even in the UK.
I think 2 is suitable.. if you cant decide on names then perhaps some old family names :)

I personally don't see the point in more then one middle name. Its just to much. I know I would hate to have to write that many names. I know in the hispanic culture they like more then 1 and also like for the mother and fathers last name. My boyfriend is hispanic and im white and we named our girl Aubriyana Zaydie De Los Reyes and I think its already long. His mom wanted my last name as well. Just to much. But good luck. I guess 2 wouldn't be so bad. And congratulations on your baby

I only have one but my younger brother has two. I suppose it just depends on how the names all sound together. If it's just a jumble of names that don't flow then it won't work. Three middle names is fine as long as sounds good when you say it out loud.

Two middle names is enough. Middle names that flow nice together with the first and last names - maybe you could get away with three, but even if they are short names it seems like a bit much.

Do you live in the US?
If so, go with the common practice one ONE middle name.
Quelle(n): Two middle names are horrid. It makes me challange the intellegence of the parents. Were they too indecisive to pick a name for their child? - vor 1 Jahrzehnt

I think one or two middle names are good -- more than that, it gets a little bit excessive.

I think 2 is more than enough.
John Adam Michael Stewart Daniel Williams sounds ridiculous.

It will be confusing for the kid when he has to write a his middle name on the answer scan tron for a test. One is good. 2 is weird. 3 is just not normal
