Irish capital before Ireland got separated?

Question

This might be a stupid thing to ask but can anyone tell me what the capital of Ireland was, back in the days when the Northern and Southern part were not separated. 

Also I'd like to know if said capital was the largest city back then and if not, what other city was.

The capital was Dublin

for those who said it is London, that is merely the administrative capital of the UK and the capital city of England, as Wales has Cardiff and Scotland had Edinburgh. London is not the capital of Wales, Northern Ireland or Scotland in anything more than administration

London was probaly the capital. A uk government party gave the irish ireland in exchange for some votes, the unionists didn't like that so the irish allowed northern ireland to remain part of the uk

Back then, Ireland was governed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom in London through its Dublin Castle administration in Ireland.  Dublin Castle is in the very heart of Dublin City, in the Republic of Ireland.

Way back in 1700, it was the second largest city in the  UK.  By 1900, the population was over 400,000.  In 2006, the population of the Greater Dublin Area was 1,661,185.

In 1920, the Government of Ireland Act named Belfast as the capital of Northern Ireland.  Back then, Belfast was bigger than Dublin.

Before partition Ireland was under british rule, there was no Capital of Ireland as such... British Rule..!
