For the young ladies and parents - the age of shaving?

I don't think that there is an "appropriate" age to start shaving. I think that a young girl should be allowed to start shaving when her leg hair becomes an issue for her. In this case, it looks like it already has. She seems to be aware of it and embarrassed about it.

My oldest is almost 13 but she started maturing around age 10 or so.

Last year when she was 11 I thought she would want to shave for the summer. The hair on her legs were long and not really dark, but I felt she would want to. But didn't. The idea turned her off and she said NO WAY. I didn't force it and told her if or when she was ready then talk to me.

This year I'm going to tell her I think she needs to and is ready. She is more of a tom boy though. But I won't MAKE her.

I also didn't shave till the summer before 7th grade.

I think if a girl is ready and you can see very long hairs on their legs then it could be time.

I plan on starting my daughter on an electric razor. I use one and LOVE it. A good one works as well as a reg. razor plus no scary painful cuts. So that may be a good idea for your daughter too.

It is so easy to use an electric razor and you don't even need to be in the tub. I use it mostly after I brush my teeth and it is so quick. Works great on underarms too.

But I'd let your daughter call the shots. If she wants to then help her. If not then tell her it is ok.

She is definitely old enough to shave. My daughter is in 4th grade and wears a bra every day. It has nothing to do with a specific age, it has to do when they start puberty. My daughter has started early the same as I did. I also work in a 5th grade class and I would say all the girls wear bras and should by this age. I would bet a great deal of them shave as well. I know some of my daughters friends do and they are in 4th grade.

My mother wouldn't let me shave and I was teased mercilessly by my friends and even people I didn't know at the public pool. I was pretty hairy. So, I went and did it anyway. By the sheer grace of God I didn't skin myself, but I did slice my fingers up pretty well because I didn't know how to get the hair out of the razor blades.

I'd say if it's that much of a concern for her, take her by the hand and make sure she learns the right way to shave before she goes and figures it out herself and possibly hemorrages in the bath.

Even better, maybe she can use one of those new silky skin things that look like sandpaper that they have on TV where you just rub over the hairs and they come off?

If you don't have a problem with her shaving now who cares what anyone else here thinks. If she is uncomfortable with her "hairy" legs and both parents and child are ready for her to shave i say go for it. Just if she would the first couple times supervise so she doesn't cut herself. Also buy her, her own razors and teach her that it is unsanitary to share them.

nicely it relies upon on how thick, how seen and how plenty. i be conscious of ure tempted to hurry into shving n all even nonetheless it could get stressful over the years.. u won't see that now yet u will. once you start to shave the perfect and least confusing element i`d request for a statrer is veet. I heard it works incredibly nicely. If ure a starter dont use a razor untill u be conscious of how cuz u could harm ureself. and wenever u think of its time to shave only decide for...it communicate with ure mom or dad ime constructive they`ll understand.

Times have changes so much. Most of my friends did not shave their legs until the summer before high school. And we didn't wear bra until Mom or Dad noticed that we needed one.

These days it seems about 6th grade they all start shaving

when they have hair on their legs and want to shave, let them. There is no set age. My daughter is 7 and I shave her legs in the summer or when she wears dresses etc. I am sure many will not agree, but oh well we can all teach our kids in the matter we see fit.

I'm not allowed, so one time 2 years ago (I was 11, starting secondry school) I decided I would do it and didn't even do it right. Now my legs are hairy and dark and refuse to wear shorts, my school skirt etc.

I think I would let her at age 12 maybe, or atlast wait til Summer.

If you both feel she is ready, go ahead. I've always hated shorts, so it wasn't an issue for me. And if I wore a skirt, I always wore tights with it. My mom's general rule was that once you get hair in your arm pits it's a good age to start shaving.
