Toys for my destructive shiba inu puppy?
My little shiba inu puppy is eating all of his toys so he has to go without toys sometimes. He has managed to eat any type of rubber toy we get him, he eats soft stuffed animals, anything. Every single toy we've gotten him (mind you, we have tried several), he has managed to bite up. Any suggestions for what I can give him? Any shiba owners who are having this same problem? If so, please let me know what toys you give your puppy.

I've owned(fostered) several different breeds and the consensus is to get an old mens t-shirt and tie a knot or 2 in it! They love it they can chew on it, shake it, play fetch or tug o war AND the best thing is when it gets dirty just throw it in the wash or make another! Also in the summer you can freeeze it and give it to them when they are outside and they will love it! No danger of them swollowing any parts or sqeekers or tearing toys up and eating or leaving messes. ALSO if you get chew toys from drug/variety/discount shops be careful alot of them are made in china and contain toxins in the dyes and can possible cause illness if eaten!!!!!

It can be challenging to raise a shiba. They are very smart and very stubborn. They need consistancy and patience. It didn't take long for her to learn commands, but she will test you to make sure you really mean what you say. To quote my vet "Dogs always have one question...who is the boss? Some ask it once and they accept the answer, others ask it everyday." Shibas are the latter of the two. My shiba does not bite viciously. She is an 8 month old puppy, so she will nip, but gets a firm no when this happens. The only thing I have seen her bite viciously is her stuffed toys, she will chomp down on them and shake furiously (it is quite amusing). Zoe is very friendly. A key to the friendliness is socialization. As soon as we got her we had her in as many different situations as we could. We took her to Petsmart, car shows, parks and walks around the neighborhood so she could meet a lot of people and a lot of dogs. She loves people, kids, dogs and cats. Her favorite place is the dog park because she gets to play without a leash! Unfortunatly I don't have an answer about the teeth brushing because we don't do that. But I would bet that if you start while they are puppies you can train them to accept it like any other task. My shiba is obedient, but sometimes you have to give the command more than once. She does have naughty spurts, but I think any dog does this. Zoe loves to play catch! It is one of her favorite games. We will take her to the tennis courts (the only fenced area in our neighborhood) and play fetch with her. She loves it. It is great exercise for her too! If it is hot or rainy or someone is using the courts we will play with one of her stuffed toys inside. When she was teething she didn't bite hard, she just nipped and usually doesn't even close her mouth. A stern no and turning away usually stops the action. I'm not sure how to even approach the last question. You can have any dog in bed with you if you choose to do so. I don't think a puppy has the strength to bit your face off. My girl is more likely to cover you in kisses. On the weekends we wake my fiancee up that way. She loves to wake daddy up with kisses. Hope I was able to help!

I have two Belgian Malinois, and I haven't found a toy they can't destroy yet. I have tried everything from Extreme Kong, to Firehose toys, and Lacrosse balls, all without success, I even tried Planet Dog's 100% guaranteed indestructible Orbee balls, which by the way, are mint flavored and the dogs LOVE them....but they chew right through all of the above mentioned. Planet Dog has wonderful products, and all are guaranteed, so when my dogs chew threw them, I return them for new ones without cost. They do have a website, and an online store.
I don't have any other advice on what toys to get, but from experience, the orbee balls are the most cost effective for me, because I only had to buy them once, and they get replaced for free...
Hope it helped a little bit :-)

Have you tried a Kong? If my Staffie can't get through a Kong I'm sure your Shiba Inu won't!

yes my shiba loves to tear up his toys esp. ones with the squeaker & rip it out. I do have a couple of these toys that he hasn't destroyed so far & we have them for a months.

Mine won't play with toys like kongs or hard bones. He plays with a lot balls but also puts holes in those toys too.

Try buying a really thick colored rope and tying knots in it for him to chew. Ropes are really hard to chew up, yet make a fun toy for the dog. You can even play tug-o-war! Hope I helped! -Bri

KONG! they can keep them ocupied for hours. just put a little bit of peanut butter in there and he will be buisy. just make sure you get one with TWO holes to prevent your dogs tongue from getting stuck in the kong and save a visit to the vet.
