Has religion closed the door which was open sometime, and which we try to open for years now?

We all know that the highest and most important goal of all minority's is to be accepted equally without being discriminated or something else that is most likely to be negative. So, I was sitting in a philosophy class, and while listening it turned out that at the time of the big era of Greek philosophy it was completely normal to be gay, to have a boyfriend.

A big Greek warrior said " why shouldn't I like something that is beautiful".

But it all ended in when the church appeared, and everything that has to do with homosexuality was forbidden and to be punished. I do believe in God, and I am a Muslim, but at some point I really begin to think, can it really be. Something that proposes tolerance has crushed it from it's first appearance. I hope nobody feels in some way offended, It wasn't my intention to cause that, but we are here to exchange opinions.

So what do you think?

Update:

at this point I have nothing against anybody, but I think it is a more serious issue. tolerance and acceptance are points in life that should be present everywhere, but they aren't,,,,it is about thinking about it.

Update 2:

hahahahahahahahahaha,,,,,there is no Muslim church ,,,Muslims have mosks

-- As for Christians, the Christian Byzantine Empire did not punish homosexuality until 529 A.D. under Emperor Justinian, who blamed homosexuals for plagues, earthquakes, famine and pestilence.

-- In Catholic Western Europe, homosexuality was legally forbidden around 350 A.D. (though this was not widely enforced except in Spain), then it was ignored and tolerated after the barbarian invasions. Later, homosexuality began to be punished after 1179 A.D.

-- Many Christian churches now allow same-sex relationships, including the Church of England and the Episcopal Church in the United States, many Lutheran Churches in Europe and America, and a growing number of other congregations including Methodist and Presbyterian, even some American Baptists.

-- As to Islam, this question is complicated! I know that there was homosexual love poetry by Muslims in the Medieval period, certainly in Spain and in the stories of the Arabian Nights. And I've heard it is not uncommon for young Muslim men to turn to each other for sexual play when growing up. Yet on the other hand, I have also read that homosexuality is forbidden in Islam, and I know that in Iran and elsewhere it is punishable by death. So I am confused and am unsure why it has sometimes been tolerated and sometimes not.

-- Please note that among Christians, those Churches which permit homosexuality have their origin in the time of the Protestant Reformation, in which there was a major re-thinking of the Faith. As far as I know, Islam has not yet had a similar time of radical re-thinking of their Faith and a growth in individual freedom -- so maybe it will just take time for same-sex relationships to be accepted.

I don't think God or religion are to blame for this, per se. Rather, it is religious leaders who enjoy *controlling* the actions of others who are to blame. In the West, that has largely changed with the growth of secular governments, but it must change still further.

Hmmm...and I always though Muslims went to mosques... I don't believe there's a religion on Earth that claims a 'guaranteed' passage to Heaven...and rightly so... Religions have given an EXTREMELY poor example of how to live a Godly life... My faith is in God, not religion... Religions are like 'tools' in a toolbox...they may help one to achieve but they are NOT the "Something"... If religions were such 'good' things they would be getting together, working out their differences and trying to find out more about God rather than sitting on their behinds MAKING LOTS OF MONEY and telling everyone that 'THEY' are the 'right' religion...

"[Religion is] an attempt to find an out where there is no door."

It is not only homosexuality but they have closed a door on individuality and free thinking. It is a culture that proselytizes innocent children who do not have the philosophical modality to actually even consider a dogmatic identity. They're not even capable of fathoming death, let alone a metaphysical existence. It is a false sense of conviction and self. They have placed a blasphemy on speaking out with the consequence of eternal hellfire. By circumventing the necessary process of philosophical inquiry and the venturing of one into one's self they impose a sociopsychological detriment to the child's development. This coupled by the passages that limit free thinking and speaking out can only be equated with slavery. Only when one willing makes an inference on the philosophical identity can they find self worth. Religion also places men and the earth on pedestals when biology and astronomy infer otherwise. Organized Religion is a tacit advance on premature religious perversion. To ensure followers they prey upon those who cannot think for themselves and stay them with inhibited cognitive injunctions.

The door to my room is basically about consistently closed. My mothers and fathers do no longer probable like it, by way of fact they never know what i'm doing in there (no longer something any much less harmless than the two listening to song, examining, writing, or something of that form). I distinctly do no longer like it opened as quickly as I sleep. i think like somebody would are available or something without listening to them come it, and it is basically something that truly insects me each and every so often.

I respect Religions view on homosexuality, but i dont think that theres anything wrong with being gay. I am gay myself, and i know that everyone will not accept homosexuality, but i believe that everyone should show respect to other people and their way of life. Christians, Muslims, Jews etc who are against homosexuals dont bother me at all because its their right to have an opinion, but i am against them going out of their way to hurt others for who they are. Not sure if this answered your question at all :P just wanted to get my opinion out ^^.

The Greek Orthodox Church ended legal homosexuality in ancient Greece.

So you have something against cuz I'm Christian?

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking but there are tons of churches now a days that welcome homoesexuality. Just google "gay friend churches" they probably have some Muslim churches too.

    Goodluck!
