Trivia: Who said this?

“To suppose that the eye with all its inimitable contrivances for adjusting the focus to different distances, for admitting different amounts of light, and for the correction of spherical and chromatic aberration, could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest degree.”

Update:

I never said he didn't agree to the absurdity

Update 2:

I need everyone to please read SKYHAWK's answer because it contains the rest of what Darwin says. Then a response from someone who can actually understand what he says:

Update 3:

Ordinary person: Excuse me, sir. You said the eye was formed because of stimulation to a nerve by light. And, that because of that a perfect and complex eye was formed. However, since science talks about things that can be replicated in the laboratory, why are we not forming eyes today using these same principles. Just think of what that would do for the blind. And, certainly with all science can do we don't need millions or billions of years to form the eye. On the other hand, if the eye was necessary for survival, how did all the creatures survive that long without eyes until their offspring had eyes to escape the predators? And, if they could survive the millions of years necessary, why was the eye needed anyway? Many creatures survive quite well without eyes.

Update 4:

The rest of the hum hah that Darwin spouted is an example of delusion using language. Evolutionists and scientists want you to read as FACT. Yet, it is pure supposition and speculation on the fly.

Update 5:

What do I mean by that? It's simple. They want YOU to read their works as fact, but they leave loopholes in the language so they can escape when you pin them down

Update 6:

Interesting read tho

Charles Darwin? Truer words are seldom spoken, especially the last five.

    Darwin.

Might want to quote the rest of the explanation, otherwise you are quote-mining and trying to be deceptive.

"Yet reason tells me, that if numerous gradations from a perfect and complex eye to one very imperfect and simple, each grade being useful to its possessor, can be shown to exist; if further, the eye does vary ever so slightly, and the variations be inherited, which is certainly the case; and if any variation or modification in the organ be ever useful to an animal under changing conditions of life, then the difficulty of believing that a perfect and complex eye could be formed by natural selection, though insuperable by our imagination, can hardly be considered real. How a nerve comes to be sensitive to light, hardly concerns us more than how life itself first originated; but I may remark that several facts make me suspect that any sensitive nerve may be rendered sensitive to light, and likewise to those coarser vibrations of the air which produce sound."

    Charles Robert Darwin.

But if you're trying to make a point that he was against even his own idea, then you might want to read up more on how he was using that quote. He was stating the oppositions argument, and then he refuted it.

It's from 'From the Origin of Species'.

Darwin, but you are quote mining. There was a condition attatched to that particular quote you used. Please quote the whole thing in context.

    Nice try

Please read "God is Not Great" by Christopher Hitchens. You are sadly uneducated and before you proclain as you have done, you should study evolution . First, of course, you have to reject religious dogma and myth and be williing to accept scientific thought and logical enquiry. Will you do that ? I doubt it !

    How dishonest.

Darwin, and the next three pages were spent explaining how it really happened.
